News Briefs: Meeting tonight on drive to opt out of health reform
March 29, 2010
The groups Common Sense in Government, Livingston County 9-12 Group and Retake Our Gov will hold a town hall meeting today at the Howell High School Freshman Campus, 1400 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be an opportunity for those interested in learning more about the Michigan Health Care Freedom Amendment ballot initiative. Organizers of the effort want to let Michigan voters weigh in on whether the state should opt out of health reform.
The groups are launching the ballot drive in response to the health overhaul President Barack Obama signed last week. The amendment is modeled after state legislation, HJR Z, introduced by state Rep. Justin Amash, R-Kentwood. Tonight's meeting is intended to provide information and an opportunity for citizens to pick up petitions to circulate.
