Two officers, two suspects shot during drug search

By Gavin Lesnick

LITTLE ROCK — Two police officers were shot and a third was injured as authorities tried to serve a search warrant this morning at a Little Rock residence.

Two people inside the apartment at 2200 Marshall Street were also shot when police returned fire.

Neither of the officers' injuries are thought to be life-threatening, said Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt Terry Hastings. One was shot in each leg and the other was shot in the stomach, but his protective vest prevented injury. The third officer suffered a possible broken arm when he fell one story off the porch of the upstairs unit.

Hastings said the two suspects were taken to local hospitals in serious condition. One was shot in the leg and the other was shot in the upper body.

The incident occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. as SWAT and narcotics officers attempted to serve a search-and-seizure warrant at the apartment. Hastings said authorities had recovered cocaine, drug paraphernalia and weapons in a previous search there about three months ago and had recently received information that illegal activity had resumed. Investigators believe there is cocaine inside, though Hastings said a search has not yet been completed.

In addition to the two suspects who were shot, police arrested seven others who were inside the apartment.

No names have been released.

Keeping it "real" in Little Rock this AM. Prayers for the three (3) injured police, and hope the EMT's let the crackheads bleed out on the ER floor.

Medics bring the first of two suspects shot by police out of Marshall Street apartment Friday morning.

Incident happened a couple blocks from MLK Blvd:

Is it me, or does every city have the worst segments of society living near MLK BLVD?

Of interest to the LEO community, our swat team uses the FN P90, Remington (Wilson Arms) 870 SBS, and Glock 22s.

When I was trying to convince LRPD to purchase .40 cal. or 10mm MP5s, they just loved the very easy to shoot (and it is easy) FN, but they would not heed the ballistics of the firearm being basically just above a .22 magnum.

If I heard correctly, the radio said it was a drug warrant raid, and although there were 9 people in the apartment, apparently no drugs were found.

We shouldn’t be shocked when we have a militarized police force.

Only two out of seven? The cops need re-training.

I used to live at Little Rock about 42 years ago and knew the town like the back of my hand. I left in 1970 and haven’t been back. Right now I don’t think I could find my way around there at all!!

Maybe but the shooter at Ft Hood killed 13 with this same round so I wouldn’t dismiss it so quickly. Also it goes through everything but class III body armor.
