If you game this out to the extreme along 10th amendment lines, what happens if Virginia simply exempts Virginia citizens from the Federal Act and 13 other states follow suit? Then you set up the conflict between the Federal Government and the State Government, IRS and local law enforcement. Though it likely would never get to that point, you could in theory force it all the way to a confrontation could you not?

Have an army of IRS agents trying to get into a 58 year old woman’s house with State Troopers on the outside? What a visual for TV that would be.

Of course the other issue is the interstate commerce clause and insurance companies that do business in other states, the rise in premiums etc etc.

Is the tanning tax the first thing that would become an issue before it gets into the courts? This technically means Virginia tanning salons don’t have to pay the tanning tax? Then the IRS attempts to collect......etc etc?

Or am I completely off base?

No.

Perhaps Virginia could pass a state law that any and all government agents acting under the color of law within the state must obtain a Virginia Law Enforcement Permit to Possess a Firearm. Then deny it to the IRS, etc. Twenty year felony on first offense should do the trick.

I think that’s EXACTLY where it’s headed: a brutal confrontation between states and the Feds. The reason? The states CANNOT AFFORD to take this bill and implement it. They simply don’t have the funds and won’t have them. It will bankrupt them and their citizens - and well they know it. If they don’t want to be a broken, liberal cesspool mired in financial ruin, they MUST stop it any way they can! They have no choice - which is a great position for those who want this thing killed, because it means states are more likely to stand on states’ rights than fold. If they fold, they go financially insolvent. Money can be a great motivator.

Well, and just think. The IRS is going to say to a citizen of Virginia that they owe them money. The citizen will say no they don’t because of state law. Now if the corrupt courts then go and rule in favor of the feds, and the State backs down or does not protect...then MR citizen is stuck with the bill...Plus whatever penalties.
I am totally on Virgina’s side. I wish I knew how far they were willing to go(National Guard?) in order to keep the feds at bay.
