‘Going Galt’: Everyone’s Doing It!
New York Times ^ | 03/06/2009 | Eric Etheridge

Posted on 03/21/2010 5:21:53 PM PDT by RedDogzRule

So, what happens when the heart surgeons, dentists, litigators, and people who employ 10 or 20 other people in their mid-size businesses decide that they don’t want to pay for the excessive, pointless spending that the president finds so compelling? Instapundit speculates on people “going John Galt.” I think golf — a time-intensive sport that the hard-working have eschewed for the past decade or two because it took too long — will make a comeback.

I know this article is from one year ago, but it appears to have fresh meaning in light of the Health-kill vote today. Or is the other option to find new shores? Where to? What countries have better options now, than bleeding their citizens dry. Or is the best tactic "going Galt", taking a page out of Dr. King's book and performing passive resistance?

My version of going Galt is to get out debt (done) and spend as little as possible and earn only as much as necessary.

Rice and beans are cheap and healthy. You can live on less than a buck a day.

I will never support the UAW by purchasing a new vehicle. I will keep my beater running for another 76,000 miles, then get another.

Starve the beast.

Withdraw every penny from your bank and put it in a safety deposit box.

Donate everything you own to charity. Quit your job, or close your business. Stop paying your mortgage. Adopt or have more children. Get sick (mental or physical).

Draw unemployment or disability or retire on SS (make up an excuse) apply for food stamps, Medicaid or Medicare(if possible)

Get into subsidized housing. Buy a boat and go fishing.

And then ??? you plan on driving the same truck down the same streets that the new IRS tax collectors use.

“Get sick (mental or physical)”

Makes me think of Junior Soprano and his “playing insane” ruse to stay out of jail.

I don’t think many people will be moving to Galt’s Gulch anytime soon.

But this kind of intrusion into the people’s private beeswax should definitely slow the march to a “cashless” society and reduce the use of credit/debit cards in favor of the paper money or even barter.

I’m sure there are more than a few people on FR who are actual employers. I’ve never seen it explicity posted but a good thing would be to fire liberals.

At this point anything you can do to them, go for it. We are governed by looters for looters. If you unzip the disguise on Barak Obama, Ellsworth M. Toohey will appear.

Kind of reminds of the SDS chant “on strike shut it down.” Works for me. Conservatives are by far the biggest producers in the nation, they really could shut the whole thing down quickly if they were inclined to, and I think they may just be inclined.

Sounds nice, but it's really expensive to fire someone.

These days you owe them two years of unemployment, and it basically comes out of your pocket.

I think I'll go "John Galt" too. I'm tired of slaving away for the liberal thieves that control the federal government, and since the liberals have actually made the decision a little easier by destroying the economy and making sure that I remain unemployed, I shall go "John Galt" by going back to driving buses and/or trucks.

American Doctors will be able to earn a lot of money moving offshore to foreign medical centers that don’t have Medicare and medicaide patients and HMO’s.
Many of the foreign medical tourism places will welcome them.

Passive resistance and active resistence!

The old “one-two” punch to K.O. socialism once and for all time.

You can collect unemployment if you get fired? I thought you only could if you were laid off.
