I loved Drew’s definition of a libetarian: a conservative who still gets high. :-)

(from an interview in Reason magazine)

Reason: I take it you favor drug legalization?

Carey: Yeah. But every time you bring that up, people always ask, "Oh, you think they should sell heroin and crack in stores?" Sure: Smoke crack, die, get out of my way. As long as I don't have to pay for it (laughs).

Pretty much my attitude as well...

I imagine that would all change if they gained any traction nationally.

Conservatives make up 40% of the general population while liberals make 20%. 40% is “fringe” to cary?

From what I’ve gathered, libertarians are basically socially amoral? If that’s the case. then no wonder they are considered more palatable to Hollywood.

There is no way that we can change hollywood as it exists now. The talented loons have taken over the coop.

We can, however, not participate.

I am doing my part by just not going to see any movies these days. I am under no illusion that I am making even a minute (mī-nūt) dent in the revenues of the "stars" and the movie producers since lately they seem to have record sales.

It makes me feel better knowing that not a dollar of my money goes into buying Matt Damon even a quart of gas for his jet or that I am contributing to the "bottom line" of SKG et al.

Most actors are so stupid they think it means liberal.

All the "libertarians" I know are just liberals, who want to balance the budget. Otherwise, all things liberal are to their liking and acceptance, including legalizing drugs, prostitution, homosexuality, etc.

Libertarians are basically cowards who walk the fence because they want the best of both worlds. They are basically afraid to take a stand on their beliefs for fear of isolating themselves from one side or the other.

People like Cary and other hollywood dorks may be complete conservatives, but fear for their careers if they say it out loud. The ones who value their careers are smart to stay as far away from politics as possible, and keep their beliefs to themselves.

If you claim to be "liberal" you lose lots and lots of fans, if you claim to be "conservative" you lose lots and lots of job offers, so "libertarian" is an on-the-fence, safe place to sit.

Most of us don't really care where the hollywooders come down politically, until they start running their mouths to slam conservatives and America, like Rosie O'Donnell, Tom Hanks, the Dixie Chicks, etc. They offend a lot of people, people who buy movie tickets and DVD's.

As long as I don't know that they are flaming liberals, I can pretty much watch their movies, but as soon as they slam conservatives and America, that is the only image I see when they are on screen...and I turn it off.

I guess claiming to be "libertarian" in hollyweird is like saying you "in the union" during a dockworkers strike...you do it, or get beat up.

But, if you look at a lot of the "has beens" in hollyweird right now, you can trace their demise to some asinine statement or liberal stand they have taken. No one wants to be entertained by, or support, people who support the demise of America...and that is the main cause of the democrat/liberal/progressive party.

...xcept for that fringe, radical segment known as conservatives.

Drew must have been listening to MeCain.

I guess Drew thinks...

1. Adhering to the U.S. Constitution is radical
2. Reading up on our Founding, and understanding why our nation was formulated like it was, and supporting that is radical.
3. Objecting to killing a million unborn each year is radical.
4. Thinking that each of our citizens should be able to keep the benefits of the sweat of their brow, is radical.
5. Thinking that parents are the best people to make the decisions for their children is radical.
6. Thinking our borders should be protected against the illegal hoards is radical.
7. Supporting small government and more personal responsibility is radical.
8. Supporting a business friendly environment so that more of our citizens can find work in the private sector, is radical.
9. Thinking that having more people working for the government rather than the private sector is terribly wrong is radical.
10. Thinking that our military should be so powerful that no nation would ever think of challenging it, is radical.
11. Thinking that our citizen's safety trumps the comfort of terrorist detainees is radical.
12. Thinking that a nation that was developed side by side with another, that applied itself to making a better life for it's people is better than a territory that refused to create a better life for it's people rather than try to destroy every Jew in it's neighbor nation, is radical.
13. Thinking that capitalism is better than fascism is radical.
14. Thinking the the same form of governance that has been tried and has never worked successfully with or without oppression of it's citizens, is a bad unacceptable idea, is radical.
15. Thinking that the U.S. should become energy independent and develop it's own energy resources on and off it's shores, is radical.
16. Thinking that international agreements that impair our ability to make sovereign decisions, is radical.
17. Thinking that the government should not be running over 50% of what used to be the private sector is wrong, is radical.
18. Thinking that our schools should not be teaching homosexuality to our K-12 children is radical.
19. Thinking that placing homosexual marriage on the same par with Heterosexual marriage is wrong, is radical.
20. Thinking that our nation should be a God fearing nation, is radical.

Sorry Drew, your idea of radical and mine are quite different.

Drew Carey is from Cleveland and thus not really an American.

A quote from Robert A. Heinlein, quite relevant for this thread:

"Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort."
