Rep Gingrey: Not Sure There Will be a Vote Tomorrow

Georgia Congressman Phil Gingrey, who chairs the GOP Doctors Caucus, tells Fox News that he’s “not sure there will even be a vote tomorrow.” As part of Fox News’ continuing health care coverage, Gingrey made an appearance on the channel earlier today, where he said, “Nancy Pelosi is not going to bring the vote to the floor if she doesn’t have those 216 votes. And nobody wants to be that deciding vote.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi needs 216 votes to pass the bill, and the votes, even within her own party, haven’t come easily. When asked what Gingrey made of the Democrats latest whip count, which stands at 217 votes, he replied, “I understand now that they're saying 217 yes’s and of course, the Democrats want to have 217 because in addition to this deem and scheme, deem and pass trick, they're trying to avoid their members having a fingerprint on the passage of this senate bill” so they can go “ back home and say, no, I voted for the rule, I didn't vote for the bill.” The Republican Congressman added that the bill overall was disappointing to him and that “as a physician who practiced for 31 years, to see the destruction of the doctor-patient relationship and health care and our economy” was disheartening.

I forget who I heard saying this but yes, no dem wants to be that deciding vote. If it does go through, it will have to be on 216 votes exactly and no more because nobody wants to be seen as voting yes in the first place.

Trouble is: that will mean that every single congresscritter that votes “yes” will have to face the responsibility of having been that deciding vote. Certainly, no one wants to go down in history as being the schlub who Ram and Nan fooled into pulling this monster over the finish line. Getting that last vote will be like pushing a spaceship that last notch to light-speed—it will require a theoretically infinite amount of thrust.

“Deem and Pass” just got dumped a few hours ago. I think the Kraken just looked at the Medusa’s head and is about to turn to stone and fall to pieces any moment.

Ya, the bad thing with delay is that they will just continue the arm twisting and then quickly schedule a vote in a week, in a month, who knows when.

Would be nice to see a vote against it tomorrow and kill it off that way, but, we’ll see what happens.

A delay tomorrow would be fantastic. The longer this drags out, the more liberals will be sent packing in November. I want to see this bill buried and that is the first priority. However, pass or fail, the longer it takes the better.

That’s what they’re tossing about on Fox, but it’s not going to spare any of them the consequences no matter what time of day or night it’s done. It’ll just make them look even more weaselly, if that’s possible.
