Whitman contradicts eBay on global warming law
California Watch ^ | 3/19/10 | Sarah Terry-Cobo

When it comes to California's landmark global warming law, gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is now at odds with the environmentally conscious company she helped run for nearly a decade.

EBay has been a prominent business supporter of the carbon-reduction law signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as well as international efforts to curb greenhouse gases. The online auction house says California should "seize this precious opportunity" to enact the 2006 state law, while Whitman, the company's former CEO, wants the "dangerous job-killer" regulations suspended for a year.

Whitman frequently cites eBay in her campaign advertising and speeches, even using the company's logo and interviews with former eBay employees in her TV ads. But in her Republican primary campaign, she doesn't highlight the environmental activism of the company where she worked from March 1998 through March 2008.

When Whitman was CEO of eBay, the company was among 150 global businesses that signed the Bali Communiqué on Climate Change, which called for a comprehensive United Nations plan to reduce carbon emissions. Unlike Whitman's current campaign literature, the Bali plan viewed global warming regulations as an economic benefit, not a drain.

"In summary, we believe that tackling climate change is the pro-growth strategy. Ignoring it will ultimately undermine economic growth," the businesses wrote on November 30, 2007, four months before Whitman stepped down as CEO. The communique was signed by Tod Cohen, vice president and general counsel for government relations at eBay.

Are RINOs like Whitman REALLY the best that the Republicans in California can produce nowadays?

I know there’s good conservative parts of the state. I’m not really impressed with the gubernatorial candidates at all.

Norm , do you have 40 million to take on Moonbean Brown the radical left winger like Accorn, SEIU, Sierra Club ?

You don't even live in CALIF so why are you doing Jerry Brown's bidding on this website ?

Meg Whitman was CEO but did not own Ebay . the founder was a left wing nutter.

WE in Calif has one choice to STOP Jerry Brown and the radical left from stopping the radical in the state house from killing the state .

So why don't you get involved and cough up 40 million to run or stop helping out Jerry Brown here.

Norm , we have a not so great option but we
need to STOP Jerry Brown Period.

jerry Brown was the vile creep who put the SEIU , Sierra Club , and the Nurse Union in Power during his last awful two terms .
jerry Brown is protesting ACCORN in his position as AG.

Can you imagine the radical left wing hell on earth that would be unleashed if State House was not Blocked with a Governor veto ?

I an sorry you hate San Jose . Its hard to move with work and all.
WE live in El Dorado Hills which is conservative and nice .
Move here if have to stay in Calif.

fear monger. ( hey, san jose is OK.. we got the schnarks but the foothills must be nice, I’m sure, we have friends who have retired up in that neck of the woods.)

it will take what it will take to flush the political machine.

you call aRnie’s years a positive experience?

I never vote for a democrat but I don’t give free passes to candidates in a primary either. if she wins, she wins, van jones wins, all the orgs she has donated to win..

now go pull some weeds or sumthin’ ;-]

Notice, like every good little traitorous RINO, she says it should just be suspended for a while, not destroyed or turned back, but let's just put it off for a while, OK guys?

No way in HELL I vote for this woman, for anything, not if she is the last Republican standing.

Its not fear mongering , I know these nutters.

i have to work with the nutters from the state house from time to time.

let me warn you Arnold stopped many of those nutters and their ideas and you never heard about it.

that crazy gay Mark Leno from SF is a dangerous loon and a big buddy of Jerry Brown.
Mark leno would destroy this state if not kept in check by a GOP governor.

maybe a ‘civil’ war is what this state needs.

Our choices are not good,...the Jarvis organization seems to have settled on Meg....not sure what all they looked at...maybe only Prop 13.

sadly you probably would not be shocked by the crazy laws these left wing nutters like Mark Leno have tried to cook up.
we openly mock these clowns but they are dangerous and are power hungry leftist tyrants .
Arnold has killed many bills and in some cases just told the Mark Leno crowd to don't even bother trying to sent these bills.
i am not a fan or Arnold or Meg or Steve p but any of them is better then that nutter Moonbeam.
the guy was living in a druggie commune in Oakland when he was mayor and bankrupting the place.
Moonbean is insane ( literally).

Oh I have heard and watched Leno and his cronies climb and spread thru gubamint for many years. aRnie signed his share of stinkers too.

We both want the same thing , just have proposed different paths.

Moonbeam is the Dalai Lama of California gubamint.
