Arrest Made in MARTA Murder
WSB Radio ^ | March 19 2010 | Jon Lewis

WSB Radio) Police expect to soon file charges against an Atlanta man, suspected in the killing of a 19 year old at the East Point MARTA station.

20 year old Broderick Smith is scheduled to go before a judge later today. He was tracked down to his mother's apartment in the Westlake area of Fulton County.

He's suspected in the shooting death of Anthony Beavers, of Jonesboro. Police say it appears the shooting was prompted by a robbery attempt.

Beavers, apparently, refused to hand over his new, touch screen cell phone. Police say Smith then shot him.

MARTA police say surveillance cameras at the station helped them quickly identify Smith as the suspect.

"We had video footage right away," says MARTA Police Chief Wanda Dunham. "We had a name within five hours."

Killing of an apparently very talented young man by a useless one. The grandmother of the perp commented on the radio that she hoped he got a long jail sentence.

Gee, I'm in Atlanta today for a meeting. Almost took MARTA instead of a cab from the airport yesterday.

Looks like the cab was a good move.

And victim:

The local communist paper has already begun to bury the story.

Another worthless piece of flesh. I almost took MARTA once when I was visiting my sister, until she told me that MARTA stands for

Moving Assassins Rapidly Through Atlanta.

This murder helps explain why the elitists in Georgetown (Washington) refused to allow a metro stop to be built in their exclusive neighborhood. Any guesses who — and what — they were trying to keep out?

Our illustrious state legislature magnanimously allowed Georgians to exercise their God-given right to bear arms on MARTA only a couple years ago.

I wouldn't dream of getting on a MARTA train even on the rare occasions I do without a ccw and a reload on my person.

This is also why Gwinnett County never allowed any measure to pass that would allow MARTA into their county.

Welcome to the ATL, Jim. If you’re staying down in the concrete jungle, be careful and watch your six.

I've had the opportunity to take MARTA numerous times from the airport to downtown. Always was less than thrilled with a number of the stops between the two points.

When you fly in or out it is not possible to carry, too bad.
Of course they could have a gun rental at the airport and make a fortune.

Somehow I doubt we see this article posted anytime soon by Choo Choo Willie Green.

I used to be more stressed about driving through Atlanta than taking MARTA. Now it is the opposite. Atlanta used to be a place to enjoy. Now it is nothing but a city in the way of driving from North Ga to Macon.

My heart breaks for the family of the victim.

I’d like to bitchslap the perp all the way to hell-one body part at a time. (I am not a very forgiving person in these matters.)

I’ve only been here for 48 hours (and I grew up and lived in NYC, pre-Rudy) - but Atlanta reminds me of Johannesberg.

I bet a lot of people who “live and work in Atlanta” never set foot down where I am.

I wonder if there were any witnesses nearby that heard the conversation between the two....

Atlanta reminds me of Johannesberg ...

I've been to Atlanta numerous times over the years, I've also been to Johannesburg. As bad as Atlanta might be it doesn't compare to Jo'burg ... not even close.

Yet another one of the “attributes” of mass transit. I saw a shootout at the Five Points station back in 1987 or so. Later that evening on the news the Atlanta Police spokesman said: “Four young black males in red bandannas exchanged gunfire with four young black males in yellow bandannas. However, at this time we don’t believe it was gang related” Doesn’t look like much has changed. Somebody ping Willie Green.....

"I feel sorry for his parents," Smith's grandmother says. "My grandson? He knew better."

Note: it is his grandmother and not his MOTHER making the statement. But as least she cut him no slack. BTW I think might change some folks commuting decisions... (I have a CCW so it does not bother me)
