I have been behind Nikki Haley for a while now, but this pride in a Romney endorsement bothers me. I see the Romneybots have come out and claimed a great success for RomneyCare.
You know what it is? Romney and McCain have this war chest. Money is tight so people are sucking up to these RINO losers.
McCain has his 2008 campaign money after he took his dive for Soros. Hey McCain - give me my money back you idiot.
“Thou shall not speak ill of fellow Republicans” ~ Ronald Reagan
This in-fighting needs to stop.
Nobody is perfect. When looking at the candidates, you have to look at the whole package.
Don’t let it influence your support. The candidate needs money and endorsements. Doesn’t mean she has to agree with her endorsers because as a candidate you definitely do not turn down endorsements or checks from legitimate people. Worst thing you could do would be to turn down endorsements when you are running because you will have people who do like Romney that will influence their vote for her.
It is called politics and especially in today’s elections with limited resources the checks will help her win.
My advice is not to look at who endorses but where the candidate stands. Like him or not, Romney is a Republican who has deep pockets. Doesn’t mean she agrees with him but any Republican willing to campaign or open their pockets to elect Republican candidates is alright by me.
I would say, take a closer look at the candidate. You can’t really blame someone for taking money for their campaign, and Romney has plenty.
The question is, are there strings attached? Always hard to be sure, and I would agree that this isn’t a good sign—not because she’s taking the money, but because Romney is offering it. Is this for the general, or the primary?
Rule #1 - An endorsement speaks more about the endorser than the endorsee.
Romney is a RINO and should not be allowed to advance to serious candidate stage. It is called principles, and those should not be compromised.
I like Romney more than disgusting McCain. Romney did help Michelle Bachmann back in 2008 when the RNCC (GOP) cut off money to her when she bashed Islam.
Rush, Savage and others put out the call and Americans repsonded with donations. Romeny did help too. Do I like Romney? No but I cannot stand McCain.
Watch it, somebody is sure to call you a RINO for that...
/sadly, not kidding
I will second that! I had forgotten that about what happened with Bachmann.
Well, he IS a well known Republican, and Independent voters might be comfortable with his endorsement. He has LOTS of money to give to other candidates. Pay more attention to what she says and does rather than who is endorsing her.
I don’t like Romney’s politics either, but if a candidate represented my beliefs in every other way, especially the prolife issues, I would support that candidate over an antilife liberal, even if they allowed Romney to help them.
The demanding perfection is how we got Obama and Dems in the Congress. How’s that working out????
We're talking about the guy who launched RomneyCare in Massachusetts - which is bankrupting that state - a guy who has publicly supported gay "marriage" and "gay rights", and has publicly supported abortion on demand.
Simultaneously he claims to be a devout Mormon. You cannot support faggotry as an acceptable lifestyle, or baby-killing as a method of birth control, and be a devout Mormon.
You think he's a Republican ? I don't. Or a Mormon, either, unless it's a "Jack Mormon" (one who sometimes professes but does not walk the talk).
Cap n trade - 7 dollar gas - Lindsey Graham
It is okay, Lindsey is "one of us."
Puuuleezzzzze.
Arguably, the opposite is true. First, perfection is rarely what's being demanded. Indeed, it's a civil insult to imply that it is, because it's understood that seeking perfection in a politician is a fool's errand.
In the case of Romney (not necessarily a candidate he endorses), he is very far from perfect. In fact, he's so far away from it that it's line-in-the-sand time for some of us. I'll take a "moderate" Republican up to a point, but Romney goes beyond the pale.
Bending too far left in Republican tolerance of "moderate Republican" is "how we got Obama and Dems in the Congress." It's also how we came to Romney, and Schwarzenegger, Rudy, McCain, even my beloved Dubya, who brought a lot more government to the table than I liked. I remember how disappointed I was that he won that primary, way back when: just another establishment pick. I came to like him more later and thanked God that he was Pres on 911, but still ... he dropped the ball on a lot of basic principle, like McCain Feingold. How did that happen in a Republican? Because we rewarded it with victory at the polls against our better judgment.
Demanding perfection and insisting on core grasp of limited government conservative principle are two very different things, but it's convenient to lump them into one.
The reason we have Obama, the reason Obama (or Hillary, for that matter) became inevitable was because we Republicans winced and pinched our noses and voted for the weenie one too many times. It pushed the right so far to the left that Omaba looked relatively centrist. I invite you to imagine what the next Democrat candidate would look like after 8 years of a Republican like Romney, who embraced the concept of big government as much as Democrats in principle.
Cynicism in self-interested, informed American voters who think "there's not a dime's bit of difference between Republicans and Democrats" is the real enemy. The reason they think that is because over the decades, I and many Republicans have voted for it, against our better judgment, again ... and again ... and again ... and again. I'm in California; Schwarzenegger was when I finally figured it out. What looks like the lesser evil is cosmetic. The greater evil is the Republican tendency to reward leftward movement in elections.
A pro-"gay rights," pro-global warming, pro government-controlled health insurance, pro-big-government guy like Romney, who pays obligatory lip service to gun rights and abortion but is a flip-flopper, clearly exhibits zero grasp of the conservative limited government princple. It is ONLY that principle the Republican party must represent if it will win back cynical voters yearning for a true option and alternative to the Democrat party.
I’ve had many debates with FReepers AGAINST Romney.
But to throw away a good candidate just because Romney endorses her (or him) is just plain wrong.
I agree, which is why I wrote "not necessarily a candidate [Romney] endorses ..." in my post. However, if Romney endorses a candidate, it might well be a red flag and that should prompt a closer look at the candidate.
We should always take a closer look at each and every candidate ANYWAY. Lazy voters (usually “swing” voters) give us horrible candidates which is why we should RESEARCH, RESEARCH!
So what exactly changes Nikki Haley because she is endorsed by Romney? You have a strange sense of what makes a good candidate.
