Obama's health care plan picks up support

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's much-challenged health care overhaul gained traction Wednesday as a liberal lawmaker became the first to switch his opposition and Catholic nuns declared their support in an unusual public break with the bishops.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, long a supporter of Medicare-for-all, voted against the House Democratic bill in November because it did not go far enough in creating a robust government-run plan to compete with private insurance.

But Kucinich said Wednesday that the bill coming before the House represents the best chance to expand coverage to the uninsured, even if it does not include a public plan.

Kucinich is an idiot. So are most if not all of the rest of the dems. I figure eventually they will all cave and vote for this monstrosity.

Those that opposed it from the left are likely to slide over and ultimately vote for it. That is why I think it will pass in the end.

But I am more optimistic today than I was last week. Gotta keep fighting.

The AP and NYT keep recycling this as NEW news to try to sway the other ones on the fence.

AP propaganda piece, on orders from the White House.

“and Catholic nuns declared their support in an unusual public break with the bishops.”

Yeah, sure, AP. As if you didn’t have a list of dissident and treasonous “Catholic nuns” in your electronic rolodex, ready to roll out on occasions like this. “Unusual break” my *******.

“Those that opposed it from the left are likely to slide over and ultimately vote for it. That is why I think it will pass in the end.”

Precisely. Pelosi knows she has the votes. All that matters now is who has to vote for it, and who gets a pass this time around. They are just horsetrading and working that out amongst their caucus. Eventually it will be narrowed down to 216 aye votes and they will go to the floor with it.

Amusing though it may be, this drama is mostly nonsense.

Sure thing, I expect the CHEERLEADERS to be out in force until this thing is finally KILLED. I cringe at hearing those awful ABC Radio News tools breathlessly spouting their unabashed excitement... Barf!

All you have to do to get the single payer leftist to convert is show them how quickly the Senate bill will destroy the private insurance industry.

“Pelosi knows she has the votes. All that matters now is who has to vote for it, and who gets a pass this time around.”

Exactly right. The only problem she is having is those members who are saying “if he doesn’t have to vote for it, why do I?”

If they can work that out, it will likely pass.

Actually, wasn’t there a group of bishops who said they supported this abomination? I gather there are more than a few clergy from all faith willing to spit on their vows and betray their faith in an effort to collect a buck or two from this plan. That’s what it’s about — faith-based hospitals, for example, expect to reap some sort of financial aid should this thing pass.

The push polls are out in force.

It is all about who gets to 216 first.

The MSM including FNC are all pushing it from obama’s to win.

FNC has a lightweight reporter doing a fluffy 6pm no commercial Obama puff piece interview.

6pm is high noon FLOOD THE SWITCHBOARDS BURN THE PHONE LINES for congress AND the WH.

These people really believe we are stupid. He was a no all along because he could afford to be, to be used at some point as a switch to show “momentum”.

Keep fighting. I got thru to my House RAT via the district office. Told them that if this crap passes, they can go ahead and clean out their desks in Nov.

IF this passes - the law suits are going to start flying!

Our only hope is that the Supreme Court will declare this monstrosity unconstitutional.

Go to firedoglake and look at their whip count. Look at the bottom of that page, previous whip counts. It is not moving in their direction. FDL's leaner count is optimistic (for their side). For example (from FDL):

I had Scott Murphy, a No vote last time around, listed as a yes, but his press secretary contacted me to say no, he’s truly undecided. Josh Schwerin, Murphy’s Communications Director, tells me, “he is literally reading through the Senate bill and making notes in the margins.” So I’ll put him back to a lean yes. I still think he’ll be there at the end, but this missive from the press aide sounded kind of anguished.

I never put John Tanner, another retiring Dem and named by White House officials as a likely No-Yes flipper, in the lean Yes category. I’ll do so now.
