America’s Shiny New Palestinian Militia
NRO ^ | 3/16/10 | Daniel Pipes

No matter how events play out, this story ends with U.S.-trained soldiers pointing their guns at Israel.

‘The stupidest program the U.S. government has ever undertaken” — last year that’s what I called American efforts to improve the Palestinian Authority (PA) military force. Slightly hyperbolic, yes, but the description fits because those efforts enhance the fighting power of enemies of the United States and its Israeli ally.

First, a primer about the program, drawing on a recent Center for Near East Policy Research study by David Bedein and Arlene Kushner: Shortly after Yasir Arafat died in late 2004, the U.S. government established the Office of the U.S. Security Coordinator to reform, recruit, train, and equip the PA militia (called the National Security Forces or Quwwat al-Amn al-Watani) and make them politically accountable. For nearly all of its existence, the office has been headed by Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton. Since 2007, American taxpayers have funded it to the tune of $100 million a year. Many agencies of the U.S. government have been involved in the program, including the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the Secret Service, and branches of the military.

"The stupidest program the U.S. government has ever undertaken"

Well, no. Washington DC comes up with ideas that cost us hundreds of billions, even TRILLIONS, of dollars -- every freakin' year.

However, on a dollar-for-dollar basis, it's hard to beat the sheer concentration of Stupid encapsulated in giving $100 million a year (and I think that probably significantly understates the total amount of US support to the PA) to known Palestinian terrorists. (Yes, I know that they're wearing "police" uniforms now, but guess what -- I can change clothes, too! And, shockingly enough, doing so doesn't much change my personality... stunning, but true!)

That's a whole lot of Stupid for such a (comparatively) small amount of money.
(Because a "comparatively" small amount of money, by Washington DC standards, can still buy a LOT of small arms. And RPGs. And light mortars).

Okay, that had absolutely nothing to do with.... anything.

Odd posting.

You ought to look again if you think they aren’t related. Hardly “odd”. It’s right on the money.

You're quoting Scripture verses which were fulfilled over 2,000 years ago by the evil King Herod the Great.

I think it's fair to say that's pretty much irrelevant to US funding of "Palestinian" militias in Anno Domini 2010. Good grief.

Hardly. You’re way off if you think those apply to Herod.

Ridiculous. A simple biographical reading of the events of Herod's reign easily demonstrates that he fulfilled every single point of verses 36-39 in Daniel 11.

I hate it when theological amateurs rip fulfilled Biblical prophecies out of context and claim that they are in fact unfulfilled, thus making a Liar out of God and intentionally and willfully undermining one of the key proofs of the Infallibility of Scripture! The Devil couldn't be happier with the results.

Well, n00b, thank you for the lesson in post-millennial or amillennialism. No doubt you think Nero was the Antichrist, too.

Of course, there's no capitalized Big-A Individual "AntiChrist" in Scripture, as you well know.

Or maybe you didn't know that. Well, go try reading your Bible; you'll find it ain't in there.

BTW, welcome to FR. Now go hassle somebody else, thank you.

Um, my postings have something to do with the article at the top of this thread.

Yours don't.

So, I don't care how long you've been on FR, why don't you go sell your Bible-undermining snake oil over on FR's Religion Forum? Hal Lindsey Silliness doesn't really belong on a thread having to do with a serious discussion of US foreign aid policy.

Yeah, seen many like you. Getting nasty and insulting.

You mean like this?

Pot, kettle, black.
You've no room to whine and cry to anyone about your po widdle feelings being hurt by someone "getting nasty and insulting".

Now, like I said: go sell your Bible-undermining snake oil over on FR's Religion Forum. Hal Lindsey Silliness doesn't really belong on a thread having to do with a serious discussion of US foreign aid policy.

Nope.

Herod the Great. Get a Bible, get a history book, read them side-by-side, see that Bible Prophecies are always 100% right.

It's cool, trust me.

Well okay then...the BEAST and his False Prophet and the Beast’s Image, “That son of Perdition”,”the little horn that speaketh blasphemies”... By the way Jesus did mention the abomination of Desolation to stand at the last days in the temple and of the arising of many “false Christs who could even do signs and wonders”. And as for a non-underlined “anti-christ”, well it doesn’t deserve to be underlined!

Or, here's an idea -- meaning no offense to you, but y'know: we could discuss the Topic of this Thread on this thread, and discuss Revelation over on the Religion Forum.
(Just a thought).

Herod the great didn’t call fire from heaven nor caused men(great and small) all over the world to be forced to take a mark in their right hand and forehead so that they could buy or sell...read your Bible again. Neither did Herod give life to an image to himself and cause it to speak like the Bible says...read the prophecies again...then come back and and try to sell me your SERPENT of EDEN’s oil! Herod never fought a last battle on the plains of Megiddo, nor was he thrown alive into the lake of fire...Read your Bible again!

Um... didn't say that he did.

I did say that Herod fulfilled Daniel 11:36-39, which has nothing to do with the sections of Revelation to which you are referring.

And none of which has anything to do with a discussion of the wisdom of AD 2010 US foreign-aid funding for Palestinian militias.

Which was ACTUALLY the subject of the Article posted for discussion, FWIW.

Israel is being maneuvred and cornered just like the Bible says it would be at the time of the rise of the BEAST. The posting is relevant...

Now I don’t think Obama is the “son of perdition”, he isn’t smart enough, and too many folks haven’t fallen under a “strong delusion” “so that they should believe a lie”. Obama has no respect in most of the world now.

A Julius Caesar type is what I see arising, inexorably magnetic, strong to defeat his enemies (if he can’t flatter them into submission) and a penchant for calling fire out of the sky. The whole world will wonder after him, curry his favor and seek his protection. He’ll have a power base that can project military power on land, sea, air and even space...now what sort of nation could do that now that already has a military presence or advisors or command structures in over 110 countries...?

“Watson, the end game I fear is afoot!”
