Gallup did something pretty cool in connection with their latest health care survey, which was to provide the verbatim responses (.xls) of the rationales given by people who would tell their Congressman to vote for or against the current health care bills, respectively.
I ran the responses through Wordle, a word-cloud generating tool, omitting certain words that were parts of speech or were otherwise nongermane.
Here are the words that were used most frequently by the 45 percent of the country who would tell their Congressman to vote for the health care bill:
And here are the words used most commonly by the 48 percent of the country who would tell their Congressman to vote against it:
In some sense, this is a very old-fashioned debate about the proper role of government. The message that the pro-reform voters have taken away comes through loudly and clearly: 'PEOPLE ... NEED ... INSURANCE', whereas concerns among the anti's boil down to 'GOVERNMENT' and 'COST'.

My brain went right to "Gov't insurance cost people money."
My brain is not buying that 45% of the people would tell their congress person to vote for it.
If 25% of the voters are self avowed liberals, and almost 50% of the workers in America pay very little or no federal income tax, then it is quite possible that 45% might be for a public option that is funded by the gov’t. Now go and tell these same people that they have to buy an insurance policy with their own money, and I definitely agree with you.
My reaction as well............BS
One is a very emotional response. The other is rational.
Someone run the bill thru Wordle.
I think it’s funny that out of dozen’s of polls that show the approval average at about 40%, five-thirty-eight only decides to use the one outlier (AP) that shows support at 46%.
Whatever makes them feel better.
Couldn’t you figure this out without a computer program??
and this is bad why????
I just saw “Kill The LandLord, Kill Him Dead!”
I want health care reform, but not government financed health care. Below is an example of what I’m talking about.
I knew of a doctor who would only take patients who paid cash and refused to accept any forms of health insurance. His office visits cost $35, and that included the costs of tests, any injections/vaccinations, and referral to specialists when needed. He was open 6-days a week, 12-hours a day, and he never lacked for business.
He made really good money but was put out of business by the state’s medical oversight board, all because he wouldn’t accept medical insurance.
Dito..that is right where I went to as well.
Capitalism is the best system for delivering products/services to the largest customer base at the best prices, period. Nothing comes close and never will. Notice I said 'customer', not 'user'.
Obama's plan will make 'users' of us all and will remove the profit incentive that drives the delivery of good/affordable/effective service. Once implemented, a new market (black) will arise that will provide services to 'customers' willing to pay more for efficient care that works. And the two-tier health care system will be born- as happens in most command economies where 'consumers' don't want what is commonly available, but what is behind the counter.
The Kenyan Idiot would have been smart to use market tools to correct a 'distribution' problem, as well as the cost problems associated with health care delivery. But, because he's both and idiot and a socialist (and an arrogant/narcissistic one at that) his stupidity will be reflected in whatever the ignorant congress-people decide to vote into law.
Chapter two in the communist struggle comes when the people realize that the sh*tcare for the masses doesn't come close to the blackmarket care others receive. That's when things will get real interesting, all because idiots abandoned the market for their 'vision' of how things should be.
Funny how Medicare was supposed to solve the problem of rising health care costs. Woops...it got worse after Medicare. Couldn’t be that government meddling IS the problem, could it...
Keep in mind the 45% who want this so called “reform” seems to conform with the % of people in the country who pay ZERO income taxes so it is another freebie as far as they are concerned.
This is the great danger in exempting anyone from the tax rolls. As long as people pay SOMETHING, even 1% in income tax on any money they receive,(even welfare)they will not be so quick to support give away social programs which increase what they must pay.
45% of the people WANT this bill passed? LOL. Gallup is a joke.
