Boehner: If Pelosi had 216 votes to pass healthcare, 'this bill would be long gone'
The Hill ^ | March 14, 2010 | Bridget Johnson

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Sunday that Democrats don't have the House votes to pass the healthcare bill.

"If she had 216 votes this bill would be long gone," Boehner said of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on CNN's "State of the Union."

The Democrats "tried to pass it in September, October, November, December, January, February," Boehner said. "Guess what? They don't have the votes."

Obviously, Pelosi can’t reach that magic number. There’s always some poison pill that angers a few on the far left, but appeasing them makes it impossible for those who represent conservative-leaning constituancies.

Don't get cocky John-Bo.

Man, if we retake the House, I want Pence as Speaker.

Pelosi has 10 days to buy off, or threaten Democrats. I don’t see what threat she has that exceeds losing the next election. LOL!

I sometimes fantasize that this bill was defeated. The wrath that will be placed on the American people by Obummer and Pelousi will be astounding, if not, frightening to watch.

The manchild in the Whitehouse will throw a hissy fit to top all hissy fits!

That’s just what I was going to say! The problem for Boehner is that he can only sit and wait; the final result is out of his hands. It must be tough to just wait around like that....

I’m with you all the way on taht...

It seems apparent that what passes for GOP “leadership” is content with sitting on their hands and waiting for the final vote count. I don’t see any proactive efforts to communicate or mobilize the 80% of the country dead set against this... absolutely pathetic.

What else could she possibly have to threaten them with at this late date? Seems to me that her threats must be ringing hollow these days. She's been threatening people since 2006!

If Obama and the Congressional leadership had made some concessions last summer they would have peeled off a handful of the usual RINO suspects to come on board and get it passed.

Then with nose in the tent they would have been able to ratchet in all the liberal goodies piecemeal.

This has to be the most politically incompetent bunch in US history. Can you imagine LBJ whiffing on this softball.

... absolutely pathetic.

Yep, this is something I've been saying for months. The 'Pubbies seemed nearly completely content to go along with the Dims locking them out of meetings and such. If they were truly in opposition why wouldn't they show up at the door of the meeting room with a camera and film it, stick it on YouTube and let it go viral? They're voting against it in public and using all the carefully chosen focus group words, but politicians do that sort of thing all the time. The real push pull is going on behind closed doors and you can bet that if this bill were looking like it were going to pass there are a legion of Republicans that would be lining up to position themselves to take full advantage of the situation. Hence, my tagline......

They're democrats. Nothing says the threats have to be limited to the political arena.

Put nothing past these people, NOTHING!

Exactly!

Part of it is the Media filter, but if the authoritarian nature of that bill was laid out verbatim to the legitimate citizens of the US, i.e. Sec of Health and Human Services authority, Councils on Medical priorities, Control of government grants, etc, there would be NO way.

Another demonstration that the Republican Party does not have the savvy nor heart to stand for any thing, other than their own individual re-election.

They really are not going to win as big as FR comments project. Over and over and over they fail because they have no foundation. You're right --- pathetic.
