Critics Blast Transborder Immigrant Tool as 'Irresponsible' Use of Technology (Duncan Hunter)
Fox News ^ | 3/10/10 | Joshua Rhett Miller

A cell phone application that will help illegal immigrants find water and key landmarks as they cross into the United States is an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds and an irresponsible use of technology, critics say.

The Transborder Immigrant Tool , the brainchild of three faculty members at the UC-San Diego and a colleague at the University of Michigan, is a software application that can be installed into a GPS-enabled cell phone. In addition to helping immigrants locate water and landmarks, it also could alert them to Border Patrol checkpoints. And to make the trek a little less arduous, it also plays recorded poetry.

“I don’t think it’s an appropriate use of technology,” U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., told FoxNews.com. “If other governments did this and tried to tell people ways to sneak into the U.S., I’m sure the Department of Defense would take issue with that. But because American universities are doing it, there’s not a whole lot of outcry about it.”

Hunter said he found the project to be a poor use of taxpayer money, particularly doing a recession.

Joe Kasper, Hunter’s spokesman, accused the universities of “functioning as a platform” for a system that could potentially help human smugglers and illegal immigrants enter the United States.

“It’s amazing to think that university professors, whose salaries are funded by taxpayers, are actually designing a GPS application intended to facilitate illegal entry across the U.S.-Mexico border,” Kasper said in a statement to FoxNews.com. “In this case, the university is functioning as a platform for a system that would ultimately help smugglers, other criminals and illegal immigrants navigate the border.”

The faculty members behind the project — UCSD’s Micha Cardenas, Ricardo Dominguez and Brett Stalbaum and the University of Michigan’s Amy Sara Carroll — declined comment for this story.

Would a cell phone app that enabled bank robbers to elude police, find access to stolen cars and safe houses be tolerated?

“Inappropriate” is the mildest possible criticism. Anyone who advocated, developed, or distributed the software should be rotting in prison for aiding and abetting criminal activity.

One of the “professors” working on that project, Ricardo Dominguez, is a big MecHa-Atzlan activist who has managed to get on the public payroll. He is allied with the communist Comandante Marcos in Chiapas. If he was not an illegal, he was an anchor baby. Beware: this guy has no loyalty to the United States and its citizens and form of government whatsoever, in any way, shape or form. He is a parasite.

Assuming the app can be had by all, sounds like it might just be a new way to nab them.

America may push back with their Vietnam Vet/Norman Rockwell/walker and cane outcry...but look at any elementary school, Anglos will soon be drowned out by the hue and cry of 3rd Worlders. They will demand the system continue so they can be fed, clothed and educated at our expense and willing politicians will continue to allow the invasion, as long as one party gets cheap labor and the other can insulate power via entitlements.

When 30-40-50% of the nation is from Central American descent, the need for a border won’t be there.

Our system will be milked, PC’d, affirmative-actioned, taxed, levied, litigated, fee’d, hurt, killed, raped and eventually turned over to the 3rd Worlders. When the system is flooded and there is nothing new created or produced, you will have a Mexican Narco State across the USA. Gangs, corruption and crony Socialists will rule the roost.

The Anglo is a useful idiot by the open borders and Liberal crowd...

I am developing stealth/cloaking software/hw to use on GPS GSM cellphones that will allow U.S. citizens to sneak into Guanajuato, MX, to GPS to $8 million in gold objects hidden there since 1920`s, and egress back across the border to USA undetected with the loot. This is made possible from a generous educational grant from the Mexican Govt, D.F. Muchas Gracias, Stupidos!!

These watering hole might be a good place for boarder agents to stake out and let the wetbacks come to them.
