Asbestos is not the sole cause of Mesothelioma. My 13-month-old cousin died from it years ago. No asbestos anywhere in his little world, and none where Mom and Dad worked.

He was a fine football player, and unlike some of today’s athletes, he seemed to conduct his life in an exemplary manner. May he rest in peace!!

Shipping companies were ordered by the federal government to use asbestos. They couldn’t opt out because of the dangers of fires at sea. That’s the sad part. The government set them up and then knocked them down. I worked in “blue water marine law” for years, and believe me, I know.

This apparently puts a lie to all those ads on TV that if you have mesothelioma, you were exposed to asbestos. Where would a pro football player be exposed to asbestos?

An athlete and a gentleman. Condolences for the family.

You know, I bet this is one death notice that will NOT have the phrase “in lieu of flowers, please send...” For Merlin, send flowers!

"...Jim Brown was an actor who played a little football when he was young. I will say however, that I didn’t like him as a broadcaster."

I was at the local Muni Golf Course a little while ago, paid the green fees and turned to catch up with my group...ran smack into Jim Brown (my face in his chest) and bounced back and said excuse me...then realized who it was...and I said "I hope I didn't hurt you" and he chuckled. The man looked like he could strap it on today. Amazing. Jim Brown was to running what Merlin (and maybe John Hannah, on the other side of the ball) was to linemen.

"Where could he have been exposed to asbestos?"

I am 62. Everyone I grew up with, within 8 - 10 years of my age was exposed to one degree or another.

Our home had a pot-belly stove, which sat on an asbestos mat, and had asbestos pot holders. The school we went to was built in 1910. It was full of the stuff.

Roman Gabriel and Merlin Olsen were both in the movie “The Undefeated” with John Wayne and Rock Hudson. I always think of that movie when I think of Merlin Olsen.

You do yourself a great dishonor by not watching the Little House series. It was a wonderful, wholesome program, with great moral teachings, unlike the crap we now have on tv.
