CHICAGO Tania Unzueta says shes tired of keeping her secret. The 26-year-old graduate of the University of Illinois is an illegal immigrant who decided to "come out" publicly about her status Wednesday in downtown Chicago.
Shes among dozens nationwide who hope sharing their stories and risking deportation will help get immigration reform and a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants.
Unzuetas tourist visa from Mexico expired in 1996 and other attempts to get permanent legal status failed.
Similar coming out events are planned in Michigan, New York and Massachusetts.

How ‘bout ‘GET OUT!’ day?
In a rational world, ICE would be there with buses and handcuffs.
“Unzuetas tourist visa from Mexico expired in 1996 and other attempts to get permanent legal status failed”.
...poor little Tania. Wonder which syllable in “Il-le-gal” is giving her trouble?
This should make rounding them up much easier.
As highly educated as she is, I would think she understands the phrase;
....GET THE F#%$ OUT !...
Could be a new bumper sticker
Start breeding,Tania, that’s your ticket to turning this country into a third world sewer like the olde one!
I think it’s coinciding with an ACORN voter registration drive.
Illegals openly defying the LAW.
Deport now!!
Where’s the Water Cannon?
Let’s all drive up to her place, move in, and demand food, health care, and education.
If she refuses, we knuckle her up a bit.
Sound fair?
Call out the National Guard!
Mexico could use some well educated bi-linguals to help improve the country and Mexico is her country! I wonder what kind of student loan balance Ms.Tania has and how she lied her way into that funding.
But of course, illegal immigrants only make all our lives better by all of their contributions to our society./s
I called the Chicago ICE field office and they were very aware of this.
Thanks for making the call. Now we’ll see if they will actually DO anything about it. Interesting.
A 26 yr old woman is not a “youth”. They are flagrantly out in the open now and our govt as usual is derelict in their duty to protect us.
Overstaying your visa is one very common way to become an illegal. Can you imagine going to Mexico, or any other country, and staying after your visa expired, to work, go to college, etc.? Wouldn’t you assume that after your tourist visa expired it was high time to go home?
I would say her chances of being deported are slim and none.
Better to hold a "Going Home" day.
