TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts said Tuesday the scene at President Barack Obama's first State of the Union address was "very troubling" and that the annual speech to Congress has "degenerated into a political pep rally."

Responding to a University of Alabama law student's question about the Senate's method of confirming justices, Roberts said senators improperly try to make political points by asking questions they know nominees can't answer because of judicial ethics rules.

"I think the process is broken down," he said.

“So I have no problems with that,” he said. “On the other hand, there is the issue of the setting, the circumstances and the decorum. The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court — according the requirements of protocol — has to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling.”

Yes,, thats right, Obama and his Junta are fascists.

Books are written about it, yet America remains ignorant and in denial.

Roberts is a wise man. If we just had more of them on the SCOTUS we might be able to reverse the current trend and be a great nation again...a FREE nation.

I wouldn't be surprised if none of the justices show up to the next Obama state of the union speech...I sure wouldn't.

I have to commend the court for venturing out of the stare decisis box and actually reading the Constitution after all these years. It’s refreshing.

On the other hand, they have to realize that after all of these decades of the “living, breathing Constitution” excuse for rendering decisions beyond the plain language of the Constitution, they’re going to get slapped around trying to right it as they remove power that should never have been granted.

10th amendment cases that are coming down the pike are going to be the big ones. Will they have the courage to restore its meaning?

Just a question...I wonder if the health-care bill goes thru could someone claim it's unconstitutional.. and could it go to the supreme court eventually ....... I'm day dreaming here...would be a great payback!

Not sure how such would play out, but be assured, if ObamaCare is passed, its constitutionality will be challenged.

I’m still bothered by the photo of Roberts and other justices in a palsy-walsy get together with Obama in justice chambers when there were cases being brought to the court concerning Obama’s eligibility. Can’t recall if the cozy meeting was before or after the election. In any case not very wise.

I wish the Court had stood up and walked out of the speech.

I know many states have been positioning to opt out if this passes. But if it becomes law they will impliment what they can asap...what a mess this is making! Who could challenge it with enough force to make it stick or slow it down?

I think it speaks better of them that they showed class by not walking out though they were justified to leave under the circumstances. In a courtroom, such behavior as Obama’s would land him and the jeering crowd in jail for contempt.

I guess Justice Roberts hadn’t been forewarned that the king was going to rag on the Justices and that they should bow before him as he made that proclamation.

http://articles.sfgate.com/2009-01-21/news/17198154_1_oath-constitution-chief-justice-john-roberts

“He should probably go ahead and take the oath again,” Turley said. “If he doesn’t, there are going to be people who for the next four years are going to argue that he didn’t meet the constitutional standard. I don’t think it’s necessary, and it’s not a constitutional crisis. This is the chief justice’s version of a wardrobe malfunction.”

The wise Latina woman looked just as annoyed as the other members of the court. She actually had a scowl on her face.

He is so combative with many here and internationally...this has to come from his overinflated opinion of himself. The title of Pres. has more than gone to his head... but he cerainly is not living up to what that office means.

I trust we will soon see some of the push back which is opposing this administration...at higher levels.... because he certainly isn’t hearing the people or even those in his own party! I sometimes wonder if they are keeping this bill alive to keep our focus away from all the other issues and bills he is passing under the radar.

That scowl is just part of her hideous face.
