Silver bullet from U.S. states kills 'mandatory' Obamacare

At least 36 state legislatures are considering legislation that would allow citizens to opt out of a key component of President Obama's health-care "reform" – an "individual mandate" requiring that all Americans have health insurance.

Both the House and Senate health-care bills require Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty. The House bill establishes a fine based on percentage of a person's income, while the Senate version creates a penalty as a flat fee or percentage of income, whichever is higher. Those refusing to get insurance could be found guilty of a misdemeanor crime, punishable by another fine or even jail time.

"The president's proposal adopts the Senate approach but lowers the flat dollar assessments, and raises the percent of income assessment that individuals pay if they choose not to become insured," a White House plan released in February states.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, formal resolutions or bills have been filed in opposition to the individual mandate in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming

Bout time the States showed some stones.

Instead of bending over and taking it just because the fed offers/threatens them with bribes of FRN’s.

Which, according to the Constitution, States are not supposed to recognize as legal tender anyway...

Perhaps Obama could solve unemployment like he would solve the problem of people without health insurance. He could fine or jail those who don’t have a job. That should do it.

I will drop health care if it is mandated. I am insured now.

I will send the IRS a letter that I refuse to pay the fine, as well.

If someone comes to arrest me, I will resist.

Take that as you will.

I’ve read about this. Sounds like more states are wanting to make laws against Obama’s takeover.
Don’t know how that will workout.

The great thing about this is that it stands a better chance of truly destroying the evil monstrous bill than Congress. If even a few of these states take a stand, or maybe even one big successful state like Texas, the burden to make up for the revenue will drive the other states to do the same and then maybe Congress will get the stones to totally undo it.

Wow 36 state legislatures! If we had never adopted the 17th amendment, there’s no way this law would have ever passed the US Senate. If senators were appointed by state legislatures, there would be 72 who would be in danger of losing their jobs if they voted for the health care deform bill.

Haven’t heard a thing about it; but can’t believe Pennsylvania would participate in something so SENSIBLE! The reason for my doubts is that Fast Eddy Rendell has been an Obama butt boy from day-one! I hope it is true, though.

Maybe we’ll still be around when they’re all gone! I don’t doubt they might try something at some point, but I often think of one of those little headlines that “the Onion” put up with no story. It was funny but it was how it’s supposed to be. It had a picture of Chuck Heston and it said: “NRA Lobby Warns Congress Not To Try Anything Stupid”

The 17th Amendment was the single worst Amendment ever.
