Al-Qaeda came within days of terror attack on Britain last year, court hears

An alleged al-Qaeda terrorist cell arrested in the North West was within days of launching an attack on Britain a senior officer in MI5 has told a tribunal.

The men, who were arrested in Manchester and Liverpool in April last year, were said to be in direct contact with al-Qaeda in Pakistan, using coded email messages that talked about cars and girls.

They were said to be “operating in a similar manner” to those planning the mass casualty attacks of July 7 2005 and the trans-Atlantic airline plot of 2006. Sources at the time said the gang was targeting Easter shoppers but police found no sign of bomb-making equipment and they were never charged.

The operation had to be brought forward after Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick, then Britain’s most senior counter-terrorism officer, was photographed entering Downing Street with details of the operation visible.

Four of the men, who had all arrived from Pakistan on student visas, are now appealing against a government decision to deport them on national security grounds.

Enemies of the state who plot acts of terror should be executed, not released to train other jihadists to complete their works.

You were saying ...

It doesn't sound like they had a case to be able to do that. So, "exporting" them may be the only way to deal with it -- and not let them go and back into that society, once again.

Since they arrived on student visas, rescind those visas and the job is done. No need to make the case. There are plenty of people who are denied travel visas over far less.

Michael Savage does not pose a threat to national security yet is banned in britain.

Why would Muslims attack Britain? They’ve already taken it over!

They're definitely getting there, but they're not there yet... :-)

From UK,

just for the record Michael Savage’s ban to enter UK was lifted several months ago.

Having said that, it should never have been invoked in the first place, and was a sop to the left to prevent the ban list looking too Islamic.

Kind regards

Smith’s successor, Alan Johnson, called the ban a terrible blunder and told the London Daily Mail he would scrap the policy of maintaining an enemies list. But Savage told WND two days later that according to his attorney, Johnson’s announcement did not mean his name had been removed from the list.

It was back in July that Johnson announced it would change. So has it now? It hadn’t by November 2009.

Which makes me wonder what OUR government is not telling US about what is going on here. The fact that these creatures are having the unmitigated gall to contest their deportations sickens me. They should have been sent back to Pakistan the next day.
