WASHINGTON (AFP) The top US Senate Republican predicted Sunday that President Barack Obama would pay a hefty price in upcoming mid-term elections if he forces his health care reforms through Congress.
Mitch McConnell warned Democrats, fearful of big losses in November from their majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, not to ram through reforms fiercely opposed by the Republicans.
"What the American people would like us to do is not make this gargantuan mistake," McConnell told ABC television, portraying the reforms as costly for Americans in the short-term.
"The benefits don't kick in for four years. Just looking at the politics of it, there's nothing but pain for the next four years. Why in the world would they think that would be popular?"

Democratic congressional aides have said they hope to pass a final bill before the start of a two-week Easter recess at the end of the day on March 26.

Amen!!
We should NOT care if Obama or the DEMs are going to sink in the polls...THEY don’t care. Their endgame is healthcare no mattter what. Our focus should NOT be on elections, it should be on blocking HEALTH SCARE.
It’s all about the RAT’s “final solution” to dictate who lives and who dies. The RAT “camps” will be hospice centers. Never Again is ringing hollow. These RATs would make Hitler proud.
I agree with you 100%.... But how? How do we block it before elections?
March 26? They just gave themselves a week’s extension? But, they have the votes, right?
Right.
I generally agree. But as long as McConnell is putting it out there, OK, let’s use that to keep awareness high on this stupid reconciliation move by the RATS. Also, to some degree, the 11/2010 threat to RATS is working - they are more timid, despite having large majorities. Why else hasn’t SocialismCare passed yet? We need to pound whatever reality we can, into their skulls. If that’s re-election concerns, it’s re-election concerns.
“Republicans should make a pledge of immediately repealing it as the central platform issue this election.”
The problem with this will be MAO-bama’s veto of our efforts to do so. Can we over-ride his veto in a repeal effort? Best to stop it here and now (of course.)
This was supposed to pass before Christmas break...anything we can do to extend and/or kill this bill...is good. Imagine how sick people are getting of the RATS constantly trying to build up enough momentum to get this rammed down our throats...it's getting quite surreal.
The all out republican push to take back the House and Senate should focus on a strategy of gaining a veto-proof majority.
It would be one hell of referendum on Obama and his socialist takeover of HC while providing the impetus for voters to overwhelm the corrupt party in power.
I wish I knew....I know once it passes...no amount of Republicans will be able to repeal any of it.
Attach the repeal to every piece of legislation headed to zero's desk and let him veto everything. We can effectively shut the fed govt until he signs it....red
Just look at British politics...particularly Prime Minister's Question Time. The "liberal" Party continuously promises that all they have to do is spend more money and the waiting time for a heart operation will drop from 12 months to 11.The "conservative Party continuously promises that they'll decrease the health tax by 1% *and* drop the waiting time for a heart operation from 12 months to 10.5 months.
Ok, so I’m more radical than most. But I think we need not wait until 2012 for clownboy to take his medicine. Impeach the Imposter 2010!
Why in the hell isn't this said more often by more people?
I never hear it in a health care debate... except by myself, screaming at the TV.
Realistically and legislatively, there's nothing that Republican senators and congressmen can do now. That's just the sad reality of being the minority party. HCR has passed. The Senate and the House have passed their HCR bills; they'll use reconciliation to tidy things up, and that's it.
What Republicans should do now is to start mounting court challenges to the most judicially vulnerable parts of the legislation. Start eating away at it now before it even goes into effect. Then when Republicans are back in the majority, we can really have at it.
Believe me, if this unwarranted usurpation of the People's constitutional power by the Central Government goes through, shoved down our throats as they say--which is the way of the Marxist With Power, then there are other ways in which these elected officials are going to suffer as well. There just is no other way around this, and the deep reprecussions for such a national top-down coup d'etat by those liberal elites in power over us. hey are going to regret they ever did this to the People who DO NOT WANT THIS OVERWHELMINGLY.
Not to mention, there is going to be a massive nationwide tax revolt, and individual states are also going to challenge the federal government over the issue of state's citizens being coerced illegally to buy any kind of insurance which is clearly unlawful.
“Just look at British politics...”
Pray to God, we don’t become like that...
