Krauthammer: For Obama, health care show must go on

So the yearlong production, set to close after Massachusetts' devastatingly negative Jan. 19 review, saw the curtain raised one last time. Obamacare lives.

After 34 speeches, three sharp electoral rebukes (Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts) and a seven-hour seminar, the president announced Wednesday his determination to make one last push to pass his health care reform.

With or Without Reform, Private Healthcare Insurers Are Doomed

Yesterday Barack Obama set a two-week deadline to get a deal on healthcare reform completed. Some Democrats have expressed hopes and others have expressed doubts that it will get done by Easter. Of course, previously it was supposed to be done by last Labor Day and then by Thanksgiving and then by Christmas and then…well, you get the idea.

Some years ago, one of my favorite doctors retired. On my last visit to his office, he took some time to explain to me why he was retiring early and in good health.

Being a doctor was becoming more of a hassle as the years went by, he said, and also less fulfilling. It was becoming more of a hassle because of the increasing paperwork, and it was less fulfilling because of the way patients came to him.

Obamacare worth the price to Democrats (GOP Will Not Repeal It)

Why is he doing this? Why let "health" "care" "reform" stagger on like the rotting husk in a low-grade creature feature who refuses to stay dead no matter how many stakes you pound through his chest?

Because it's worth it. Big time. I've been saying in this space for two years that the governmentalization of health care is the fastest way to a permanent left-of-center political culture. It redefines the relationship between the citizen and the state in fundamental ways that make limited government all but impossible. In most of the rest of the Western world, there are still nominally "conservative" parties, and they even win elections occasionally, but not to any great effect (Let's not forget that Jacques Chirac was, in French terms, a "conservative").

Nine House Dems Mull Health Care Backing (Voted no last time; might vote yes this time)

CBS ^ | March 1, 2010 | staff

Posted on Sunday, March 07, 2010 2:12:18 AM by Sun

In interviews with the AP, at least nine of the 39 Democrats - or their spokesmen - either declined to state their positions or said they were undecided about the revised legislation, making them likely targets for intense wooing by Pelosi and Obama. Three of them - Brian Baird of Washington, Bart Gordon of Tennessee and John Tanner of Tennessee - are not seeking re-election this fall.

WASHINGTON – A top House Democrat said Sunday he believes Congress will pass a health care bill, but three fellow Democrats who opposed overhaul legislation last fall aren't committing themselves to backing President Barack Obama's late push.

'Trust' Gap Between House, Senate Dems Hurting Health Care Push

House Democrats' distrust of the Senate is turning up as a major roadblock to passing health care reform. And they're playing right into Republicans' hands.

With President Obama pushing anew to pass the health care package through Congress in the coming weeks, several House Democrats have voiced concern that the Senate could betray them if they go along and pass its version of the health bill.

Obama's health care pitch to Democrats: Trust me (asks them to make 'a leap of faith')

WASHINGTON – In private pitches to Democrats, President Barack Obama says he will persuade Congress to pass his health care overhaul even if it kills him and even if he has to ask deeply distrustful lawmakers to trust him on a promise the White House doesn't have the power to keep.

That, in a sometimes darkly joking way, is what the president is telling Democratic House members as he begins an all-out push to coax Congress into passing his proposals despite voters' misgivings and Republicans' dire warnings.

Bid for GOP Support Hampered Passage of Health Care Reform, Sebelius Says [BARF ALERT]

FoxNews ^ | 3/7/2010 | AP

WASHINGTON -- Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Sunday that health care reform would have been "dead on arrival" if the White House had sent a finished proposal to Congress last year.

The secretary also blamed delays in passing the measure on President Obama having to spend "far too much time talking about what's not in the bill" and trying to counter "wild accusations" by Republicans.

EDITORIAL: The odds of a government health-care takeover--Public funding for abortion stands...

The Washington Times ^ | March 7, 2010 | Editorial

Democrats are using the nuclear option to try to ram their government takeover of health care through the Senate. The fate of that legislation may come down to a dozen or so members of the House of Representatives opposed to government-funded abortions. Right now, the vote in the House couldn't be more closely divided.

Democrats do not have a firm grip on the votes needed to pass sweeping healthcare reform legislation in the House of Representatives, one House leader admitted on Sunday.

But the White House insisted that its reform efforts were “in the final chapter”.

A bill's fate depends on whether the House Speaker can land enough votes - and whether the president can take control of the debate, which Democrats complain he has not done.

NASHVILLE, TENN. — Americans do not want this massive government takeover of our health care. Fearing that Cajun extraterrestrial James Carville is correct, Obama is intent on ramming it down our throats. This is not about what’s right; it’s about politicians perpetuating their power.

RP urged to maximize potential as medical tourism, retirement hub in Asia (Philippines)

THE Philippines should maximize its potential as a medical tourism, wellness and retirement hub in Asia, experts said.

Medical tourism alone is projected to be a $188-billion industry by 2013, as more and more people seek quality health care overseas. Medical tourism in the Philippines is quietly but surely bringing benefits into the country.
