Democrats Revolt Over Energy
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 5, 2010 | REBECCA SMITH And STEPHEN POWER

Posted on 03/05/2010 8:13:34 AM PST by SmartInsight

President Barack Obama's energy strategy came under attack on at least three fronts Thursday, highlighting the conflict that has hobbled one of the administration's top domestic priorities.

On Thursday, big utility operators and some state officials blasted the administration's formal announcement that it would drop plans for a federal nuclear-waste vault beneath Yucca Mountain, Nev., and instead consider what it believes are better options. On Capitol Hill, a group of Democratic lawmakers introduced legislation to block the administration from using the Clean Air Act to regulate carbon-dioxide emissions. Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers urged the administration not to use federal stimulus dollars to help finance a wind-energy project that involves a Chinese maker of wind turbines.

The Energy Department's move to formally drop its application for the Yucca Mountain waste site could hobble efforts to build more nuclear power plants—a strategy the Obama administration has promoted as a way to reduce U.S. greenhouse-gas emissions. Without a permanent solution to the waste-storage problem, several states, including California, won't let new nuclear plants be built.

Senator Casey was on Greta Van Susteren’s show talking about this. I call it Obama’s Chinese workers employment program.

It is possible that the Obama administrtation has figured out how to become less experienced for every minute that their time in office increases?

This seems to be....dare I say....UNPRECEDENTED.

None of this would be happening wer it not for the internet, talk radio, and bloggers. Shining the light of truth on these bastards is getting them to change their ways. Now that’s change that I can approve.

Some of the news today is the finding of increased methane emissions in the northern climes.

Well, which is worse as a greenhouse gas: CO2 or methane? I vote methane.

And, what is the easiest way to get rid of methane? Why, burn it (or oxidize it) of course.

And then, what are the byproducts? CO2 and H2O!

And here's another riddle for all those farmers out there who want subsidies to make alcohol as a fuel supplement: When sugared components are fermented to create ethyl alcohol, what byproducts are generated by the billions of yeast cells? Why, CO2 of course!

Trying to regulate CO2 is one of the most foolish endeavors ever undertaken by the political class and those politicized scientists. CO2 is a byproduct of life itself; the only way to get rid of it is to halt the creation of new life.

"Unintended consequences" may not be unintended after all.

“Its time for the morons to revolt over this stupid high speed rail fantasy too.”

High speed rail between Boston, NYC and Washington is the only one that makes sense. Other than those cities, every place else is really too spaced out for high speed rail to compete with air travel.

Another one of “his better options”. He is so freaking smart, we should all worship him and turn our families budgets and lives over to him.

If we are going to use Stimulus money, borrowed from China, to give Chinese jobs...in the US, we would be better off just giving them the money straight up and officially call it repayment towards money borrowed.
