All good news ~ and not without a message for those with Type II ~ to wit, although this report didn't mention that insulin production declines with age, it does decline with age, and many Type II folks end up with Type I anyway.

Sorry but a type 2 can never become a type 1 because they are caused by differently.Really according to my edo the only thing the 2 dieases have in common is that they both close high glucose levels and are treated with the same drugs sometimes. You can however be an insulin dependant type 2. I’ve been a type 1 diabtic since I was 9 years old which was close to 40 years ago. It would be wonderful to find something else to help.

Sorry, but not all Type IIs are the same. Type IIs are not immune from loss of beta cells. Type Is are not immune from the condition described as insulin resistance.

So, yeah, from the inside ~ as a Type II I recognize that I am gradually losing my beta cells ~ it's just taking longer than most Type Is ~ or, maybe not.

These two conditions are not mutually exclusive and people can have both.

Type 2 usually wear their beta cells out unlike type 1 which is caused by an autioimmune reaction. That is why there is a separate distinction between the dieases.

Frankly I don't use Wiki as a reliable source ~ they adhere too closely to the American Diabetes Association doctrines. Instead, I look to the researchers in Australia and New Zealand, as well as to the Scandinavians who have done a tremendous job identifying all the genes involved in Type II ~ which, surprisingly enough, are frequently involved in Type I.

So, no, I don't believe Type IIs simply wear out their beta cells. There's something else at work ~ with a genetic link ~ that slows beta cell insulin production.

That was just the quickest source of information on why you can’t be at type 2 that turns into a type 1 since the description of the dieases are based upon cause. I base what I know on what my endo tells me about the two very different dieases.

The "two different disease" approach is blurring rapidly.

BTW, in families where diabetes is a serious concern you find you have relatives with both major kinds ~ plus those who have both.
