I liked New Mexico a lot after I became acclimated. I was 18 and boarded a plane in New York City and the next thing I knew I was getting off the airplane at the Albuquerque airport. In 1965 it was not the airport of today. They drove us up to Santa Fe on a bus and you could imagine the state of shock I was in. In the morning I was viewing the New York skyline in the evening..you get the picture.
It took about 6 months to grow to like the place.

Santa Fe is a nice place to visit for a few days, but, alas, like so many “nice” places, it’s been taken over by the superwealthy extreme left New Age fringe. It’s funny that (despite the growth) a lot of the gov’t workers can’t afford to live there and have to schlep the hour drive up I-25 from ABQ 5 days a week. Not a place for folks of modest means or those who are in the political mainstream.
