It became a national disgrace that prompted a landmark federal lawsuit, and led to the passage of legislation in several states to make sure nothing like this ever happened again on American soil: the unilateral disarmament of law-abiding citizens in the wake of a disaster.
And now the story has taken an even darker turn than it did in the months following Hurricane Katrinas devastation of New Orleans, when police and National Guard units illegally and unconstitutionally seized, often at gunpoint, firearms held by private citizens who had done nothing wrong. No police or public official has ever been held accountable for that outrage, and that possibility will likely take a distant back seat to holding several police officers responsible for gunning down unarmed citizens on the Danziger Bridge on Sept. 4, 2005.
"When another police investigator told Lieutenant Lohman that he was going to plant a gun under the bridge to bolster the story that the officers were being fired at, Lieutenant Lohman went along, and even asked if the gun was traceable, the authorities said."
Those who would support the confiscation of private firearms by police with no probable cause and without due processregardless whether there has been a natural or man-made disastershould explain their logic to the families of James Brissette, then 19, and Ronald Madison, a mentally-disabled 40-year-old, both of whom were killed. Four other people were wounded and on Wednesday, a retired New Orleans police lieutenant pleaded guilty to covering up the circumstances of the shooting.

The money quote.
In a disaster, the only way that ANYONE is getting my guns is going to be bullets first.
A law - words - won’t stop armed thugs, whether or not in police uniforms, from trying to disarm law-abiding citizens...
The people who committed this crime need, very badly, to be brought to justice.
“there is no legislation that will stop rogue police or out of control tyrants and their lackeys from doing whatever they want”
What you have stated is true, it takes more than legislation to stop them, it takes will and force to do so.
It is a good idea to have the legislation in place, however, so that if you make it to court, you have a fighting chance.
Oathkeeper bump
It takes a lot of moral force and courage to buck the government when their armed agents come after you. That’s why they’ve been able to get away with so much for as long as governments have existed. Our history of armed citizenry makes it much harder to do here, but not impossible.
I just read multiple complaints on this thread about not questioning police authority:
Woman, 61, arrested for asking why’[Georgia]
Seems like freerepublic has a dual personality when it comes to police actions.
My dual personality is Henry Bowman and Wilson Blair when it comes to anti-gunners.
Heinrich Himmler
I agree with you.
Bill O'Reilly said that the Second Amendment and the Constitution were "silly" under the Katrina state of emergency circumstances.
As usual, O'Reilly displayed his ignorance and lack of common sense.
Absolutely keep a list secured away from your home (multiple copies/locations)
Decades ago, my home was burglarized. I lost several handguns. I knew make and model but had to go back to the shop where I purchased them to get serial numbers for the police report and insurance claim. This only worked because I had a great relationship with the shop owner and he let me combe through the paper files to find my info, took all afternoon.
and thanks for the reminder, I need to make a new list and drop it at... well were is a secret, but thanks for the reminder.
Which is why the Second Amendment exists in the first place.
And this is why I have NO use for Bobby Jindal. His FIRST ACTION should have been a very public investigation of these criminal goings on. The trampling of 2nd amendment is THE most serious breach of our Constitutional rights. Jindal has done NOTHING to try and imprison the offenders. Inexcusable.
“Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA - ordinary citizens don’t need guns, as their having guns doesn’t serve the State.”
Heinrich Himmler
He sure enough wanted them to have guns once they had lost the war.
this is precisely why the 'laws' since NFA34 all need to be gone...only when a citizen can match the firepower in their faces will they have the stones to resist this kind of tyranny...
dude that bodyslammed granny should be bubbas bitch somewhere in maximum security general population...
My family has been packin` since 1647.
We need to crack down hard on officers that break their oath and enforce such illegal orders. This is unacceptable, and they should know that.
The officers themselves in taking that oath were responsible for enforcing the Constitutional law above all.
The Officers of the united States are NOT suppose to be mindless drones blindly carrying out whatever orders they reserve. If they were they would never have been allowed to take the Constitutional oath.
