Uncle Sam Wants Your Vitamins!

While Americans continue to fight the government takeover of our health care, Senator John McCain announced his plan for the government to regulate all dietary supplements. His Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010 calls upon the FDA to regulate dietary supplements as if they are drugs. The language is so sweeping that the FDA would have a free hand to regulate all food products, which are manufactured to supplement nutrition.

Why is McCain doing this? Who benefits?

I use a lot of vitamins like D,B complex etc.. I some countries such as Europe and other parts vitamins and supplements are highly regulated. This is just another way that the government takes away more of our freedoms under the radar. McCain is a statist not much better than the current dictator in the white house. And to think, this was the republican standard bearer in the last presidential election.

McCain and his co-sponsor are concerned about the harm the unregulated dietary supplement market is causing.

And in the Constitution, it enumerated this right to the federal government where?

I’m far more concerned about the harm the unregulated senators are doing.

Why McCain calls himself a Republican has always escaped me, even long before I moved here to AZ, and this is just another example of how he just loves BIG GOVT and pushes to keep it that way.

Come on J.D.!

McCain is an idiot.

When was the last time you heard about some one over dosing on Vitamin C or dying from taking too much calcium?

McCain and other socialists are concerned that the dietary supplement market hasn't yet been destroyed by government intrusion and over-regulation.

There, fixed it!

Granted it was probably a good idea when the government regulated things like radium suppositories and shoe store X ray machines out of existence but this is wildly over the line.

This anti-freedom power grab has been tried before. It was stopped the last time, and needs to be stopped again.

I don’t know who told McCain that it was a good idea to take away Americans’ freedom to take simple nutritional products, but they may have just handed him a rope to hang himself with.

I can’t believe that he had the nerve to argue against Socialized health care today, while supporting a statist measure like this.

McCain is a fake, through and through. He has absolutely no moral compass, and no scruples of any kind. It makes me sick that he identifies as a Republican.

Aren’t there current FDA regs that cover supplements? And dosen’t the FTC impose regs of their own on the health claims the supplement manufacturers make?

“The language is so sweeping that the FDA would have a free hand to regulate all food products, which are manufactured to supplement nutrition.”

Im sure this includes all natural foods as well.

One step closer to little green crackers.
