Dems, GOP May Not 'Bridge The Gap' On Reform [BUST! Obama: Verdict by Fall Elections]

Dems, GOP May Not 'Bridge The Gap' On Reform Obama concludes health care summit by saying accord may be impossible

WASHINGTON - After a day of debate and disagreement, President Barack Obama concluded Thursday's unprecedented live talkfest on health care with the bleak assessment that accord between Democrats and Republicans may not be possible. He rejected Republican preferences for starting over, discussing the issue much longer or taking a step-by-step solution.

Obama said he is not sure that Democrats can "bridge the gap" with the GOP to reach a compromise on the plan, and he strongly suggested that Democrats will try to pass a sweeping overhaul without GOP support by using controversial Senate budget rules that would disallow filibusters.

Then, he said, this fall's elections would write the verdict on who was right.

"We cannot have another yearlong debate about this," Obama said at the end of a 7½-hour marathon policy debate.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters after the summit that he was "discouraged" by the daylong meeting. Obama and his fellow Democrats made it clear that they want to continue to pursue their own sweeping measure, he said. "What we think he ought to do is start over."

Obozo has to “bridge the gap” with many in his own party.

Hell I agree if thats what Obama said about letting the fall elections decide but I dont think thats what he said. He said thats why we have elections ,meaning he won and he is going to help the Congress Ram this down our throats

Am I'm the only one, it looked like Dem Senator Max Baucus was drunk again at health summit?

If Obambi was smart, rather than egotistical, he would grab all the features the Republicans would agree to, put together a quick bill based on that and nothing else, tell Reid and Pelosi to pass it, and do a victory dance. Instead, the egotistical boy king, bent on pleasing his socialist sycophants, will drive his party off the cliff with a cramdown of the Senate’s last bill.

That’s pretty much what he said. He said that he will test the electorate with an election to determine if his progressives and their policies will prevail in November. He is ignoring the polls. His fellow progressives may pay the price in November. I suspect there will be a lot of Democrats who are not going to vote for this bill.

LOL Didn’t work out the way he thought and doesn’t have the republicans to blame.

I agree with you and think Obama’s smarts are way over rated! He is ruled completely by ego and gets nasty when everyone doesn’t grant what the boy King wants.

I agree with your take on that comment—I think he made an arrogant comment, inferring that the election in 2008 supersedes ANYTHING anyone else might want to debate.

Baucus looked and sounded odd. His hand appeared to shake, also.

The entire thing yesterday was a weird Kabuki theatre. The R’s were prepared and knew of what they spoke. The D’s were simply a Greek Chorus of sob stories.
