Navy (UK) intercepts Argentinian warship near British waters

Destroyer HMS York spotted the vessel around ten miles inside the disputed “oil zone” around the South Atlantic islands.

The Royal Navy has intercepted an Argentinian warship near British waters in an apparent escalation of the row over the Falkland Islands.

The British crew had to radio the Argentinian ship, a smaller corvette named ARA Drummond, to demand that it change its course.

Sources told The Sun that the ship made an “innocent navigational blunder” and were embarrassed about the mistake.

It is believed that the Drummond was spotted sailing alongside a French fleet before it broke away and headed for the disputed zone.

And why not? Obamy has pretty much given the Argentines the green light by refusing to back Britain.

I doubt Argentina’s military has improved much since the early 80’s.

Yes, but unfortunately Great Britain’s has declined markedly since then.

I wonder if the US will give the Brits satellite support this time.

“...On Wednesday the MoD said that HMS York would remain the area around the islands. A British submarine has also been dispatched to the Falklands to patrol the area...”

Word is the sub has been there for some time, with her 38 cruise missiles and a LOAD of torpedoes!

ya, it’s quite sad to see the brits fall so far from the days of the iron lady.

I still don’t think Argentenians will come out on top if they continue to push though.

I agree, my friend.

My favorite story from the Falklands War was when approx. 100 Gurkha's landed on Argentine (I believe) soil and were confronted by more than 1,000 soldiers - all Argentine soldiers were fully armed.

The Gurkha soldiers had only their kukri knives. And their steel will.

Though more than outnumbered 10 to 1, the Argentine soldiers saw their opposers, dropped their weapons and ran.

Hope the Gurkha's will be involved in this.

:-)

The Brit’s should remove all of their people from the islands and then turn the Falkland’s into a large dump for nuclear waste.

Thought the Argentine soldiers were in the majority by a 10 to one margin....

Sheese! Sorry, I've been up since 3:00 AM and am miss-firing a bit...

Well, the Argentine Army might have sucked, but it's Air Force had been trained by the USAF and was quite potent against the Royal Navy. The only thing that prevented further Brit naval losses was the fact that most of the Argentinian bombs (bought from the U.S.) were duds.

But what have they done since then? The Brits have Typhoons and better navy craft.

The ships they have now are much better than the older versions used in 1982.

I did not know that.

The Gherka’s were HEAVILY outnumbered.

Well, I guess the point is that the Brits don’t really have that many warships anymore, certainly not enough to hold off Argentinian air attacks.

I hate to sound mean spirited, but if the brits want to have colonies far far away, they need to have a navy that can protect and defend these colonies. FUBO was out of line in not backing the brits, but c’mon...if you ain’t got no way to protect what is yours, why do you have it?(POOR ENGLISH ON PURPOSE)
