Spurred by heart-wrenching stories of sick people denied health coverage, the state of New York did what many of President Obama's critics say he should do now -- it passed a relatively simple law requiring insurers to accept all applicants.
Other states have taken similar steps, making narrowly targeted changes instead of trying to overhaul their whole healthcare systems.

Democrat Senator Frank Lautenberg is in the middle of huge hypocrisy when it comes to health care. The ambulance that he told to take him to NY after his fall this past Mondaywhich turned out to be related to stomach cancerwould not be allowed to take him there under the Obamacare bill he voted for on December 24!

When healthcare became the centerpiece of the Obama legislative agenda in early 2009, it appeared that the government takeover of 1/6 of our economy was imminent. A big part of the reason for optimism on the part of the Democrat leadership was the absence of any meaningful resistance. A frequent question posed by the opponents of this policy was where are the doctors in this debate?
Republicans 'ready to participate' in Obama's health care summit

The Senate's top Republican promised Sunday morning that he and his members will attend President Obama's health care summit on Thursday "ready to participate" but said the Democrats are being "arrogant" by refusing to scrap their legislation and start over.

So much for Friday nights boycott theory. The Gingrich plan is, it seems, in effect:
Republicans have accused the president of using Thursdays summit as political theater, and had raised the prospect of not attending. McConnell dismissed the idea of a GOP boycott, saying that were discussing the sort of the makeup of the room and that sort of thing, but yeah, I intend to be there and my members will be there and ready to participate.

Barack Obama seeks to salvage health care reforms

President Barack Obama this week embarks on a mission to salvage his health care reforms, the centerpiece of his domestic agenda, and his credibility as a leader who can bend Washington to his will.
Seeking to avoid the humiliation of failing to deliver universal health insurance coverage that befell Bill Clinton and other Democrats before him, the president has pledged to publish a revised plan on the White House website by today [mon].
On Thursday he will break new ground by holding a live televised "summit" with Democrats and Republicans on legislation that has been disputed for a year and dragged Mr Obama's reputation down several notches.

The Hill today is reporting that Harry Reid will be using the Reconciliation process to pass ObamaCare. The Democrats, who have been offering bipartisanship, apparently see the meeting on the 25th as a formality. They actually intend on having a bill done within the next 60 days.
Democrats will finish their health reform efforts within the next two months by using a majority-vote maneuver in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said.

Congress has intensified its efforts to force flawed, pro-abortion Health Care reform through the system - and now, President Obama, sidestepping the legislative process, says he has his own Health Care bill - a move that raises serious constitutional concerns. The Constitution requires that the legislative branch write our laws, not the President.

MASSACHUSETTS'S UNIVERSAL healthcare law turned one in April. To survive, its guardians have had to make many changes, each of which has increased current and future government spending, increased the government's role in regulating the healthcare market, decreased individual responsibility to purchase insurance, and made certain that the plan will fall far short of achieving universal coverage.

On the other hand, they also fear that doing nothing will also worsen their financial situations.

Patients receive lethal injections without giving their consent (involuntary euthanasia)

The details are alarming. At least a third of the 5000 or so Dutch patients who each year receive lethal doses of drugs from their doctors do not give their unequivocal consent. About 400 of these patients never even raise the issue of euthanasia with their doctors...But the most flagrant abuse of euthanasia was the killing of a two-day-old child with Down's syndrome - a child who would probably have lived for 40 to 50 years.

As the Democrats attempt to ram their hugely unpopular idea of health care reform through the legislative process, there is increased interest in how that process works. There's been plenty of talk lately about reconciliation and how the Obama machine will most likely attempt to mis-use this part of the budget process and that brings us to another little known moment in US Senate history known as the Byrd Rule.
Thanks for posting. Very important considering the bi-statist event coming up.

Health care RATIONING FOR SENIORS
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The new health care plan President Barack Obama released today contains massive abortion funding, but a top pro-life attorney who monitors bioethics issues says it presents other concerns. The changes Obama proposes to the Senate health care bill also promote rationing.
Burke Balch, an attorney who is the director of the Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics at the National Right to Life Committee, explained the problems to LifeNews.com.
"The Obama health care proposal issued this morning would take away from Americas senior citizens their current right to add their own money on top of the government Medicare contribution to get health insurance less likely to deny treatment through tightly controlled managed care," Balch said.
"It would do so even as it cuts the government contribution to Medicare by hundreds of billions of dollars," he adds.
Under Title III . . . Guaranteeing Benefits for Seniors by Ending Overpayments to Insurance Companies, Balch notes that the Obama proposal talks about Medicare Advantage plans -- the alternative that now allows older Americans, if they wish, to pay more to get insurance less likely to ration treatment.
The Obama plan says Medicare Advantage plans will be prohibited from charging seniors more than they would pay for services delivered under the traditional Medicare program.
Balch responds: "Thus, older Americans would be prohibited by law from making up the Medicare shortfall by using their own money to save their own lives."
"This means that, even as more and more doctors and other health care providers are leaving the Medicare program because of low government reimbursement rates rates that under the Obama bill will decline still more in comparison to medical inflation senior citizens will have nowhere to turn," the pro-life attorney explains. "Their only option will be tightly managed plans that provide less and less treatment."
The Obama proposal then goes on to claim that all ideas that ration care...will be banned."
Balch calls that "genuine chutzpah" because the Obama plan makes that claim "even as it imposes what will be ever-increasing rationing on senior citizens."
The Senate health care bill already contains provisions that threaten to ration lifesaving medical treatment for seniors.
NRLC says state commissioners of the new health insurance exchanges created by the bill would be given significant power. They could deny people who are trying to obtain policies in the exchange the option of choosing health plans less likely to deny treatment, by limiting what they would be allowed to pay for such policies.
