WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Obama has declared a disaster in eight counties in Maryland because of damage done by a snowstorm in December.

Baltimore, Caroline, Cecil, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery and Queen Anne's counties will be eligible for federal funding. The state of Maryland and certain private nonprofits will also be eligible for emergency protective measures.

Just getting around to that one, are we? Did the FEMA office close for that one, too?

The White House announced the declaration Friday night. It applies to the record snowstorm on Dec. 18-20.

Is this serious? The snow in December was deep but very light and easy to shovel. It disappeared in a few days.

The snow has for the most part been cleared. The previous two weeks were the most difficult. My street finally saw one of those "bulldozer" machines push the remaining snow off to the curb so cars could be parked on the street. The "disaster" was two to three week ago. Obongo is a little late on this one.

Odd that Cecil County would be included... my dad lives there (I grew up there) and although the snow was an inconvenience, he said everyone took care of themselves. Plenty of farm equipment and pickup trucks to get the job done without federal help, thankyouverymuch.

Does this mean our street will get plowed to the curbs instead of just one lane in the middle?

I wouldn’t say that. But it was easier than these last 2 blizzards.
