Even as the American economy shows tentative signs of a rebound, the human toll of the recession continues to mount, with millions of Americans remaining out of work, out of savings and nearing the end of their unemployment benefits.
Economists fear that the nascent recovery will leave more people behind than in past recessions, failing to create jobs in sufficient numbers to absorb the record-setting ranks of the long-term unemployed.
Call them the new poor: people long accustomed to the comforts of middle-class life who are now relying on public assistance for the first time in their lives — potentially for years to come.

Glen Beck is right on when he says worst yet to come. Millions of angry Americans that lost jobs, lost homes, lost savings, what in the hell does anyone think.
Plus the working Americans who are going to have to pay back the money we're borrowing to pay for all of these unemployment benefits.

I take this with a grain of salt. I remember reading much the same thing in the early 90s.

0 and the other advocates of economic stimulus think that they can pump money into public works “shovel-rready jobs.” Where does this money go?
All I have seen are signs by the road, but very little sign of any work: just enough “work zones” that special speed traps can be set up, to catch unwary motorists.
The fallacy of “shovel ready” is that it ignores the fact that even road construction takes special training. No one builds roads with shovels: they are made with complicated heavey equipment, and requiring specialized training and experience.
You cannot take high-school drop-outs or (worse still) displaced Wall Street drones and give them shovels and expect them to build a road, or anything else, for that matter. The very term “shovel-ready jobs” indicates how little the intellectuals in Washington know about real, working life.
Why should a contractor hire completely unqualified people for jobs which he knows are part of a stimulus which is only temporary? He would have to be crazy. No, he will speed up the pace, if necessary, to do the slight amoung of extra work, but he cannot hire more qualified employees (if he could find them) for permanent jobs, when he knows that the work level may actually shrink as soon as the stimulus funds give out.
The stimulus policy is based on the Keynesian notion that you can fool society into being prosperous, by increasing “demand” with printed money. It will not work.
Yes, but in the early 90’s there wasn’t the internet. The internet has changed things in so many ways and not just in seeking information or email. Now technology jobs (remember the 90’s when all we heard was ‘computers are the future! go to school and work with computers) can be outsourced without any additional expense. Indian workers can be given control of your computer and repair software issues at virtually no cost. No need to call in an IT tech anymore except in the occassional hardware issue.
Not to mention the changes in international monetary trade. Currencies and stock purchases can happen at the drop of a hat now.
It’s not the same as the 90’s I’m afraid.

The urge to hang these politicians is getting strong and common among the peasantry.
Middle-class life who are now relying on public assistance for the first time in their lives — potentially for years to come. I have a plan (HOPE) they don’t know what it is)and I will (CHANGE) the way you live for the rest of your life.
