... has approved measures to prohibit the potential federal regulation of state-made guns and ammunition and to block federal terrorism suspects from being held in state prisons or local jails.

It has passed a resolution memorializing Congress to honor state sovereignty under the 10th Amendment, ... resolution to propose a balanced-budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

"There's a long history in Virginia of our expressing our discontent with actions of Congress going back to our denunciation of the Alien and Sedition Acts in the late 1790s..."

"The catalyst has been the flurry of unprecedented and misguided federal legislation that's been proposed by an overreaching administration and an unresponsive Congress who are not listening to the people and oftentimes seem to be willfully ignoring them..."

Marshall... attributes the growing chorus, at least in part, to the Tea Party, which grew out of intense frustration with the federal government.

"I think the Tea Party movement has gotten to so many people's attention and the public hearings that were going on with health care have shown so much agitation and discontent with what's going on in Congress, I think the speaker just had to recognize there's got to be a way to channel this energy, or this discontent," Marshall said.

The House joint resolution memorializing Congress to honor state sovereignty under the 10th Amendment states: "The commonwealth by this resolution serves notice to the federal government, as its agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers."

... requiring a balanced federal budget.

"They feel like the system has gotten out of control and Washington is just not being responsive to their needs," he said.

"The discontent isn't exclusive to Virginia. Several other states have passed similar resolutions asserting states' rights under the 10th Amendment and to thwart federal mandates included in the federal health-care legislation that has stalled in Congress."

Racists. If you talk about states’ rights you’re a racist, right?

I am profoundly proud of any state that passes such resolutions, but are they only for show? Do these resolutions have any teeth?

Teeth means arresting IRS agents that hassle your citizens and escrowing federal tax payments so the fed cannot whip you into line by withholding highway funds etc. I have not seen any teeth yet.

Thanks Army Air Corps! A quick and dirty rundown on how the Commonwealth of Virginia is doing their part to tame the feral beast.

Virginia is on a roll!

Until the states actually do something more than pass pretty resolutions, nothing significant is going to change. The federal government laughs at such resolutions.

Actually there is a State Rep in Texas that I know that is working up a bill that will have plenty of teeth to be introduced in the next legislative session next January...

I’m very excited about it from the draft summary I have seen...

They should cut off all aid to illegal aliens who are bankrupting America. If Alexandria, VA wants to pay for them - they can.

They haven't had any teeth since the recent unpleasantness was resolved when General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appamattox.

That's probably because states remember General William Tecumseh Sherman.

Montana (and I believe Tennesse?) passed the Firearms Freedom act stating that any firearms, firearms accessory, or ammunition manufactured in the state that remains in the state are not subject to Federal law under the Commerce Clause. The Feds said they were going to ignore all of that.

New Hampshire looks like they are going to one-up them. Ther have a bill in the legislature that says the same thing only any agent or contractor working on behalf of the Federal Gov't that attempts to enforce any Federal law, ruling, or statute restricting/governing firearms, firearms accessory, or ammuntion.... is GUILTY OF A CLASS B FELONY.

Let's hope it passes and more states follow their lead.

Wait until the states find out out that the highway fund, like the Social Security fund, has all been spent. All that’s left is a box of IOU’s.

If the State of California just withheld the amount of federal taxes withheld on JUST the state employees, and deducted off the cost of illegal immigration, there would not be enough cash flowing from CA to matter.

The states have all been demanding they be reimbursed, they all need to just deduct those costs from the federal withholding on state employees. Talk about getting Washington's attention!

Sound like a small start. These 10th amendment legislative actions never have the “s” word in them....Yet?

I hope that more states take that action. What we need more than anything else to help states regain their constitutional rights is a POTUS that would run on that as part of his platform. It is very difficult to convince people, especially in Washington, to yield power.
