From the story (which one of these should NOT be in prison for life)?

Johnie Tarkington, 53, was released from prison 43 days early on Oct. 7, 2009. He failed to check in on Nov. 18, 2009. His prior arrests include, being a felon in possession of a weapon and escape from jail [Denver 2002], as well as arrests for vandalism, burglary, theft and drugs.

James Johnson, 40, was released 83 days early on Oct. 13, 2009 and failed to check in the same day. He was serving time for fraud and escape. He was convicted of providing false information while selling property to a pawnbroker.

Steven Lehman, 48, had three days left on his sentence, when he was released early on Dec. 22, 2009. He failed to check in two days later. Lehman has four previous arrests for theft, being a felon in possession of a gun while intoxicated, DUI, criminal impersonation, jumping bail and being a habitual criminal offender. Lehman is under intensive supervision parole, meaning he’s considered an increased risk to the community. Because of his ISP status, Lehman will be required to go back to prison when he’s caught.

Mark Harris, 41, was released from prison 28 days early on Oct. 5, 2009. He failed to check in Dec. 11, 2009. He was serving time for financial fraud [unauthorized use of a financial device more than $500, but less than $15,000] and drug abuse. Harris also has arrests for possession of a gun while intoxicated, escape from a felony conviction, forgery and theft. He is also a habitual traffic violator with two arrests for DUI and six arrests for driving with a suspended license.

Ritter needs to go.

Why did this guy qualify for early parole?
This is insane.

From the statistics I have seen the recidivism rate for criminals within three years of release is 60 percent. Should the headline be a surprise?

Solution to the problem? Buy more guns, practice using them, and be willing to use them if and when the time comes in an effective manner that creates an executive outcome in favor of the law-abiding, intended victim. Each one of us must become like an Irish Wolfhound - ready to kill the wolf/predator/tyrant at a moment’s notice with extreme prejudice and not feel guilt for doing so.

Put a serious bounty on them, dead or alive and see how quickly someone brings them in.

Three “escapes” and one “jumped bail” in those cases. Seems to me those would have been good reasons to disqualify them from the early-parole program.

Liberals, and unfortunately many conservatives, have trouble believing that most people in jail are BAD PEOPLE. The believe that propaganda that lots of them were found with a joint and have to do 5 years because of it. No...sorry, if a person is doing 5 years for having a joint it’s only because the conviction on that charge was easier to get than the bank robbery that he pulled off a week earlier.

Because he 'behaved' in prison. They get 1 day off for each 'good behavior' day. Most only serve 30% of their sentences. Even the Feds give 15% discount on the front end for 'good behavior'. National re-offense rate is 68% as of the 1994 study.

Releasing them early created MILLIONS of NEW victims.

It is beyond me how we have come to this. I heard that California jails offer Aroma Therapy. Aroma Therapy!!!! The government is pushing for volunteerism. Why don’t they put these guys to work? Give them some pride, instead of stupid exuses for why they are the way they are. They can easily learn a trade ( even inside jail). This stuff makes me mad.
