Official: No exoneration letter sent to Bishop or husband in 1993 bomb case

Federal law enforcement officials did not send Amy Bishop and her husband a letter telling them they were cleared in the 1993 mail bombing investigation of a Harvard Medical School professor, an official said today, contradicting statements Bishop's husband has made to the media since his wife was charged in an Alabama shooting rampage.

"No letter was ever sent,'' said the law enforcement official, who is not authorized to speak publicly on the case.

Bishop's husband, James Anderson, has acknowledged the couple were both questioned by federal investigators after a package containing two pipe bombs was sent to the Newton home of the professor, Dr. Paul Rosenberg, who was also a physician at Children's Hospital Boston.

Bishop had worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the hospital's neurobiology lab under the supervision of Rosenberg and another doctor and left that job several weeks before the attempted bombing...

Anderson told the Globe recently that he and his wife had been questioned in the attempted mail bombing. He said neither of them was a suspect, but rather, they were "subjects'' of the investigation. ...

Anderson also told The New York Times that the lead investigative agency, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, notified the couple in writing that their role in the investigation had ended. The agency is often known by the acronym, ATF.

"In my files I have a letter from the ATF saying, 'You are hereby cleared in this incident. You are no longer a subject of the investigation.''' Anderson told the Times.

This guy is as weird as she is....in an article in the paper this morning he stated that he has not looked at the list of those wounded or killed as he “worked with them and didn’t want to know” who the victims were.....this couple is crazy!!! And now because her family evidently had some pull in MA, she was allowed to skate through several violent incidents (to include murdering her brother) and she ends up down here in Alabama and killed 3 and wounded (one still in critical condition with a head wound) 3 others....that bitch needs to fry and her hubby with her!

I haven't seen a lot of these letters, but the few I've seen have never included the word "exoneration". They (the ATF) could be wriggling on semantics, playing a little CYA. If there's an actual letter, whatever it says, it will come out. If nothing ever comes out, then we'll know it never existed.

I have no reason to believe that, like the MA police, the ATF didn't bungle this investigation. This crackpot probably should have been locked-up years ago.

Does anyone know what this husband does for a living? I know that he is a “trained scientist” too, but none of the articles have ever mentioned where he works.

The other day there was a photo of a house posted...It gave the name of a company, indicating they may have worked out of their house.
