In the run up to the mid-term elections of 2010 it seems as if incumbents can read the proverbial writing on the wall. Evan Bayh's announcement is the most recent in a long stream of retirements.
What better way to heal the "body politic" than to purge from its bowels the parasites that infect it. What better way to address the financial meltdown we have experienced than to give Congress a colonic and flush away the detritus that litters both sides of the aisle.

I thought the headline said “Congress continues to hemorrhoid incumbents.”
Freudian read?

To be fair I can think of a few Republicans I would like to see announce they were retiring. One in Arizona, another in South Carolina. Oh and a couple in Maine.

I am overwhelmingly ambivalent.
The “stay the heck out of my life, Mr. Gummit” says “who cares if this guy says he is gay? Lots of people say it all the time, I don’t see it as any worse than “I Am Short.”
The homophage in me says “EEEwwww!”

Kamikaze Democrats checking the wind. The only question is what their replacements are planning to do to not get blamed when the Dems policies kick in and the press point the finger at the new Congress?
Some stuff had best better get repealed mighty fast or the 'pubbies are going to get run over like rabbits in the headlights.

Hold on-I have to adjust the tinfoil.
What if they’re dropping out to give the other side an instant majority so they can blame all of their failures on Republicans like they always do?

I almost wonder if someone or some group is showing these retirees the door or some sort of exposure of dirty laundry.

problem is that Obama is also an incumbent. He will no longer be able to bank on his election’s historic nature or blame anything on Bush.

Congress continues to hemorrhage incumbents. No big loss. They're simply self-eliminating ahead of the voter's eliminating them in November.

All I can say is that we must be in for some really bad stuff if the rats are voluntarily jumping ship and not wanting anything to do with what is about to happen. They worked very hard to get there, and value it more than anything. It must be truly worrisome to them.
