Former Vice President Dick Cheney ducked answering whether former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is qualified to be president, saying only that he has not decided whom he will back in 2012.
Mr. Cheney also dismissed Mrs. Palin's warning that President Obama might declare war on Iran for political purposes, saying U.S.-Iran differences will not be resolved by "simple political calculations."

This story falsely states that Palin said Obama would take us to war for political purposes, and that Cheney disagreed.
But Sarah didn't say that. She said that if Obama did the RIGHT THING regarding Iran and Israel, it would also help in politically, because people would see he was tougher.
Saying someone who does something will get political gain from it is NOT the same as saying they should do it for political gain, or that they would.
Nor did Cheney "dispute" her. I guess he was asked if Obama would attack Iran for political purposes, and he said Obama wouldn't, and that it would be wrong to do so.
This is at least the 2nd article in the TImes this week which has trashed Sarah Palin without the facts.
I think that if the interviewer had asked whether Mitt Romney was qualified to be President, Dick Cheney would have said pretty much the same thing. Cheney is one that plays his cards close to the vest. He doesn’t reveal anything unless he wants to. No interviewer is going to drag anything extra out.
Palin’s qualifications are she is not connected to Ayers, the wrong Reverend Wright or the muslim brotherhood.
All else is insignificant after that.
Cheney is like Ronald Reagan,,speak no ill about other Repubs
JMO, if I may have one.
With all due respect, if you don't think Palin is running for the Republican nomination in 2012 then you are in the minority.
You know, I’m getting sick of this qualification stuff. One, she’s constitutionally qualified. Two, she’s held three high executive posts, the highest being governor of a state.
The elites think that candidates have to go through their hoops to be president. That’s not the case. If she’s constitutionally qualified and wins primaries and then the nomination, and then the election, everthing else is irrelevent.
To the media though - drop this qualifications question. It's ridiculous.
Although Cheney must feel ill-at-ease with theplain fact that the Bush administration did so little to restrain Iran. Except rhetorically the Bush administration did virtually the same as what Obama is doing.
Oh wait, I found it right here in my copy of the constitution:
US Constitution, Article II, Section 1
No person except a natural born citizen, ..., shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.
When conservatives are asked if Sarah Palin is qualified they should state is, "If Sarah is willing to show us her Birth Certificate we could determine if she is "qualified" to be President."
Anyone who states that Sarah Palin is not qualified for the office of the President of the United States clearly cannot read.
Conservatives need to get on the same page when commenting on Sarah Palin's "qualifications." The response should be, "Sarah Palin is 100x more qualified than the Marxist Community Organizer we now have sitting in the office."
1. Cheney is a member of the GOP establishment in good standing
2. Cheney is not a social conservative; Palin is
My sentiments exactly!
“I think that if the interviewer had asked whether Mitt Romney was qualified to be President, Dick Cheney would have said pretty much the same thing.”
I don’t know. I imagine that Cheney probably prefers Romney. He usually supports the establishment candidate, as in 1976 when he was Ford’s campaign manager against Reagan. He never served in Reagan’s administration, but quickly got a Cabinet level post under Bush 41. Frankly, in light of his recent statements on DADT, I would not want his endorsement:
“Cheney supports repealing ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’(Open Gays in the Military)”

What bothers me is that I have watched Palin up here the since early 90's. In every position that she held, Palin did a great job as the boss; she brought about integrity in efficient, responsible government; look at her record. I see the media disparaging her abilities without even looking at her record. Then I see conservatives who parrot the same mindset they hear from the media. Are they buying into the same elitism of the left by refusing to look at her record of achievement as Governor and every other position she has ever held? I'm more concerned we have pres we can trust to do what is morally right than a Harvard educated fool.
Like the one we have now!
Plain and simple its an insult and very sexist to ask the question about a woman and not a man in the same position.
As much as I love Cheney’s willingness to engage this administration, I hate that he endorsed Hutchison for Texas Governor. The only explanation is your 1. and your 2.
I thought of th same thing. Sarah and Cheney are backing to different horses in TX.
“know I am in the minority, but I think there is far too much time, energy, and attention being expended”
That goes for Gov. Palin as well as Gov. Romney, the presidential primaries and election is too far away to be this preoccupied by it.
Too many people want to discuss the World Series (presidential election) before the season even starts. This is the time for basketball (mid term elections) before we get into baseball.
