Durbin: I am convinced that infants born in Washington, D.C., are taken from the arms of their loving mothers right when they are born into a room where someone shows a film of a snowstorm with shrieking and screaming so that those children come to believe snow is a mortal enemy, like a nuclear attack, because I have seen, for over 40 years here, people in this town go into a full-scale panic at the thought of a snowfall."

That’s the way we do it here in Ga.
You should have seen the look on my
newborn’s face, terrified, priceless.
I immediately gave him some bread dipped in
milk and he calmed right down...
Maybe they inherently know DC is ill equipped to handle any kind of district-wide emergencies. Natural or otherwise.
Read they had 50 plow vehicles out of workign order when the first storm hit.
What do you expect in a town run by Democrats?
I don’t know about DC, but where I live, it’s not panic as such, but rather, a lot of whining. There is this expectation that government solves all of our problems. Many, particularly those younger than me, just don’t know how to take care of themselves in an emergency, and they get all bothered because the municipality didn’t plow or salt their street a minute after the last snowflake fell.
Sorta sounds like New Orleans during and after Katrina.
Yep, FM radios weren’t working.
For once, Dick is moderately funny.
LOL...the kids here go outside when it’s 20 below to play in the snow and when it’s 40 degrees or warmer you’d think it was summer time. 174” of snow and counting.
Well, for goodness sake. Dimwit Durbin actually went to college!
I live in Upstate NY. Just got back from the store. Winter is very, very scarey....
They panic at the sight of snowfall and hardly blinked when a plane flies into the Pentagon. City of weirdos.
Hey, Turban. People in your neck of the woods crap themselves when the temperature hits 90 degrees in the summer while folks in DC find that refreshingly cool. What’s your point?
And BTW, a foot and a half of snow *twice* in the span of a week is going to mess any city up, even places like Buffalo or Syracuse.

This is true. Back in 1981 I worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital. It was 5 miles from work to home. The government let out early one day when it snowed. I think we got maybe 4” or so. I left work at 2, got home at 7. It was a nightmare.
Ma and I were talking about it earlier, people in the
south don’t know about having a rack of soggy mittens
drying by the door along with galoshes and a pile of
clothing.

Step away from the bottle, Dick...
Did they miss an opportunity for some shovel-ready jobs there?
I didn’t see any reports of panic. Just long lines at the supermarket.
And to say we “hardly blinked” is just not correct. The plane hitting the Pentagon was the second-worst terrorist attack in American history, only surpassed by the events in New York the same day. A lot of local people lost loved ones that day. Yes, we had to go back to work the next day, not knowing if the terrorists planned another strike.
I gotta get my mind right. When I read Durbin’s comment, my only takeaway was that if this sumbitch has been in Washington for 40 years, then it’s way past time to throw the bum out. Another poster boy for term limits.
