Have your cell phone ready to call police if you're walking alone."

Oh yeah - that's gonna help if you get attacked.

Maybe the city could get some stimulus $$$$ to build and run a gun range and provide free instruction?

Just for once, I’d like to see a headline read “Citizens advise police against arming themselves”.

Sounds like that the Vallejo Police Department would preffer if citizens were ‘BARE’ of arms!

"The Constitution allows citizens who are not otherwise prohibited from having a gun to have a firearm in their home," Vallejo Police Department Support Services Manager Bill Powell said. "But we don't want any kind of tragedy to occur because someone got a gun and they're not familiar with it."

WRONG you arrogant self important liberal from the pit of hell. You are a liar. It is NOT Limited to your home. You have a right to be secure in your person which means ANYWHERE....That we prohibit firearms in the hands of LAW-ABIDING citizens not guilty of any crimes is your disgusting tyrannical view of our freedom. To suggest that you and your fellow police officers are magically the only ones able to handle themselves with a gun is abhorrent. You should be ashamed of such a statement, retract it publicly and stand up and SUPPORT THE CITIZENRY instead of actively working against it.

Here liar...do this math for me....rapist/murderer/all-around-bad-guy in the house...Pistol or telephone?

I thought police were sworn to uphold the Constitution upon starting their jobs.

Maybe they think they’re in Stalinist Russia or something.

I wonder how he would feel if he was required to check his gun in at the end of his shift?

How long do we have to wait for McDonald vs. Chicago?

And then how much longer after that for the decision to penetrate the thick skulls of the CA government?

My wife and I lived (and married in Vallejo) while I was in nuclear power school. It was pretty tame back then.

Fearful Vallejo residents thinking about arming themselves after a rash of violent crime may be jumping the gun, police said.

They're not jumping the gun. It's the police who have failed in their duty, and moreover, have jumped the shark.

I kind of like it here, but IMHO, it went downhill after the shipyard closed-destroying almost 7,000 jobs, and when the liberals invaded.

They’ve spent millions to revitalize downtown but do everything they can to drive away any big business that could hire more than a handful of people.

This has always been kind of a rough, blue collar town. They’re trying to turn it into an urbane, sophisticated, artsy and quaint little place. During the last mayoral election, one of the candidates stated in the local paper that he wanted to see more good restaurants in our town.

Lack of gourmet food and hip nightspots is the least of our problems!
