Michael Reagan Disputes Brother Regarding Pres. Reagan, Tea Party Movement and Sarah Palin
Received via email from Kirsten Fedewa ^ | Feb 10, 2010 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 02/10/2010 10:00:25 AM PST by Jim Robinson

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 -- "I strongly disagree with my brother, Ron Reagan's assertions that our father, Pres. Ronald W. Reagan, would not support the Tea Party Movement in this country and Sarah Palin's activism, if he were alive today.

"Pres. Reagan championed freedom throughout the world. He believed in the power of the people. His fundamental core beliefs about individual freedoms and liberties, and against government intrusion into the lives of citizens, were foremost on his agenda.

"I believe he would embrace the Tea Party Movement, if he were alive today, and support the work of Sarah Palin, Scott Brown and others who espouse conservative principles, who are opening up the eyes of the public to what is happening to our nation. "In 1976 and 1980, and throughout his presidency, Pres. Reagan worked tirelessly to build the conservative movement and the Republican Party through the grassroots. He knew what it took to build a movement.

"Unlike my brother, I campaigned with and for my father in 1976 and in 1980 – and I feel more qualified to say what he would and would not have supported. He would be applauding the grassroots organization of this country and Sarah Palin for making herself available to elect conservative candidates.

"Without the involvement of the Tea Party Movement, Pres. Obama would not be trying to negotiate with Republicans on health care reform. Without the Tea Party Movement, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown would not have been elected to fill the seat held by Ted Kennedy – and his brother John before him – in Massachusetts. There's no doubt that Pres. Reagan would respect the power and political potency of this movement.

"Last weekend, we celebrated the 99th anniversary of the birth of Ronald W. Reagan and his contributions and legacy to the world. I believe it is incumbent upon all of us, especially those who knew him best, to remember him as he was – and to accurately represent the values and principles he fought for during his life."

Ronnie just needs to go back to ballet. There’s a reason his father never consulted him about politics.

Thanks for posting this, Jim.

“Ron” had me screaming at my monitor. How could such a doofus be a Reagan?

Regards.

Michael Reagan > that little twit Ron. It’s as if Ronald Reagan adopted the older one as a preventive strategy, in case his biological son was a flop. The man had vision.

A FReeper (can’t remember who) posted that heredity (as in royal families) was a terrible way to chose leaders. So true. Michael, the adopted one, is the one child of Ronaldus Magnus who has fully carried on the legacy of his father. Go Michael!

Ron Reagan speaking for his father. Thats as perverse as things get.

And its the singularly most profound act of disrepect towards his father in a lifetime full of such acts.

Why are Ron and Patty so messed up? It just makes no sense. They seem spoiled and hateful.

President Reagan understood and appreciated how the love of freedom and the independent spirit of an American was without equal in the world.

Has junior ever said anything that wasn't silly ?

RON REAGAAN IS A LIMP WRISTED LITTLE SIDE WINDER, WHAT I’D CALL THE BAD SEED OF THE REAGAN FAMILY. GOD BLESS MICHAEL, WHO IS DOING EVERYTHING HE CAN TO CARRY ON THE PRINCPLES HIS BELOVED FATHER CHAMPIONED.

The only person that could suggest what RR would think, would be RR. And he ain’t talking.

I thought one of the reasons that the Tea Party movement was so good is that it proved that we could think for ourselves. I loved RR, but I want a leader that has a vision, can communicate that vision, and can empower people to act for that vision.

I really do not care what Michael or Ronnie think about them.

(and I do not support Sarah either....)

Michael Reagan is absolutely right - and his father experienced many of the same attacks Palin is going through right now: too scary, too extreme, not an intellectual. Reagan spent the late '70s communicating directly with Americans and making his positions clear through radio addresses, and Palin is doing the same thing now through Facebook and Twitter. She's establishing herself as the clear front-runner in opposition to a weak Democratic president. The parallels so far are striking.

Ron Jr. - that apple sure fell a long way from the tree...

The contrast between Michael and Ron was never more apparent than at the funeral for President Reagan. Michael gave a wonderful eulogy, while Ron covered the typical lefty ideals.

Too bad Michael wasn’t on Joyce Behrhog’s show the other night when Ron was on discussing his Dad and how well he knew what/who he would’ve stood for.

Why are Ron and Patty so messed up?

My take is that Nancy was a first rate wife, and a last-rate mother.

Maureen and Michael were raised by Reagan's first wife, Maureen.

His first wife was Jane Wyman, Maureen and Michael’s mother.

And I think you’re right.....Nancy loved Reagan like no one could, but probably knew nothing about being a mother.
