I love the gun control industry. Theyre more predictable that a politician lying.
(Speaking of which, Im enjoying the sweet sound of silence now that John Edwards has mysteriously shut-up)
Whenever laws are loosened, the gun control industry predicts bloodshed in the streets.
...
Yet in 2008, when the Supreme Court told the District of Columbia that their handgun ban was history, the gun control industry resurrected the same claims concerning carnage.
...
Crime statistics are in for 2009, the first full year in which D.C. citizens have been allowed to keep handguns at home, the overall violent crime rate ...

Lots of dots and little coherent info. Is “guysmith” on the excerpt-only list?
“violent crimes fell 6% in the first full year of liberated handgun ownership and homicides dropped 23%...”
With my refund check, I am going to get a Mosin Nagent. I think everyone on the FR should buy a gun with the IRS refund as a thumb your nose to Obama.
Oh, I get it. You’re Guy Smith.
Well, then there isn’t a copyright issue. Why not post the whole thing if you have a valuable insight? Why not be part of the FR community?
In the UK in the two years following the 1997 handgun ban, the use of handguns in crime rose by 40 percent, and from April to November 2001, the number of people robbed at gunpoint in London rose 53 percent. When politicians offer to keep you safe by taking your freedom away often times it is themselves and their positions of power that they are really protecting.
We just bought a couple more, yesterday (.22 semis for target practice) thanks to our tax return :-)
Regardless of octagonal or round receiver, the Mosin is a sweet rifle! I have one of each, and they're very enjoyable to shoot, and accurate to a respectable 150 yards or so with good ol' iron sights. Get to know the ballistics of the 7.62x54 round, and you'll reach out even farther.
Sportsman's Guide has about the best prices on ammo right now. A 440-round tin will set you back about $90...not too shabby.
Happy blasting!

I am getting some of mine fixed up. I might sell some.
Happiness is a warm gun and a tight group.
Sometimes I believe that liberals want to ban guns for the same reason that they want to ban DDT and they want to make abortion more available — they want to get rid of what they think of as ‘undesirables’.
They certainly make it seem that way.
That 440 round tin is a good deal but that ammo has corrosive primers. That is not a problem just remember to clean your barrel. I make my own cleaner for about 15 bucks a gallon. It is called "Ed's Red." Mix equal parts of:
Acetone
Paint thinner
Dextran (automatic transmission fluid)
It is important to mix them in a 1 to 1 to 1 ratio. If you do not it may form a stable emulsion which would not be a good cleaner. When you first mix them and shake it up it may form an unstable emulsion but after a few hours all three agents will be in solution and the Ed's Red will be clear.
I spray brake cleaner down the barrel first and that washes most of the crud out. I then bore snake it with a liberal amount of Ed's Red on the snake. It is cheap and works great.
The acetone is a polar compound and the thinner is non polar. This makes a good cleaning agent. When they evaporate after cleaning it will leave a thin film of dextran in the barrel to protect it.
I always wash my bore snakes after use. I will put them in the sink with very hot water and laundry detergent. Wash them and rinse them and hang them up to dry. This will remove any of the salts from the corrosive primers that it removed from the barrel.
After cleaning the bore I will wipe down the rifle with a cloth moistened with Ed's Red. CAUTION!!!!! If you have a plastic stock particularly the material that is used on the AR-15, the acetone in the mix will discolor the stock. Also it can do the same to the finish of a wood stock. My wood stocks are not varnished therefore the EDs Red does not harm the wood.
ps The MOSIN NAGANT is shoulder busting Son of Bi---. Get a strap on shoulder pad for it.
But, in the most recent catalog, Sportsman's Guide has some Bulgarian 7.62x54 that is specifically advertised as non-corrosive for the $90/tin price.
Yeah, the Mosin kicks, but it's not that bad...'bout the same as a .30-06 or 12-gauge. When I fire a weapon, I like to know it's gone off!
