No, he was not a scientist, he was a political whore.
I consider this an admission of guilt regarding the fraud he perpetrated.
If he had truly done nothing wrong, he would be adamant in those claims, and as a scientist could provide the facts to back up his original claims.
But since it was all a scam, what he is admitting to here is that he got caught and has no easy way out other than to off himself.
Bernie Madoff is a piker compared to Jones. Jones would have us divert trillions of dollars from investments that really help people throughout the globe (cheap energy to produce abundant low-cost food, housing, clean water, cleanup of real pollutants like SO2, NOx and particulate) to a fake cause that will simply grow government. Jones should be executed for his crimes. That would solve his angst.

Well, his lies have cost billions of wasted dollars and have led to starvation in the third world because of misbegotten progams like ethanol in gasoline.
However, I wouldn’t urge anyone to commit suicide. Just resign your position, Phil, and pay back the research grants you received under false pretences.

Life in the third world is much improved by first world technology. Drugs, machinery, imported food stuffs and new techniques make life a whole lot better for them.
Eliminate the first world and third world slides straight into hell.

This would be so much more believable in a suicide note found next to his lifeless body than in a verbal confession to a media source. How dramatic.
And his punishment? He should be condemned to Haiti, where he has to work to develop wealth for the people in that country, so they can stop dying every time a natural disaster strikes. Right now, celebrities come in while the spotlight is on, then take off until the next disaster.
