From what I understood, they had all the correct paperwork for the day they filed but between when they filed and when they were arrested, the paperwork requirements changed.
I understand the desire to halt child trafficking if that was happening, but jeeze, this is ridiculous.
I'm willing to bet that the professional child trafficers know who to bribe and are operating a boom business down there right now.

You understand wrong.
Silsby (the leader of the group) has stated that they had no paperwork, that they didn't know if all the kids were actually orphans (some were not) and that they were going to keep the kids.
She also said that the Dominican authorites gave her permission (they say nope) and that she was bringing them to a 'resort' orphanage that, guess what, nobody can find.
These kids were not being rescued, they were being kidnapped.
This is pissing me off like there’s no tomorrow. In the middle of one of the largest rescue missions ever undertaken, almost all of it by the U.S., we have this little tinpot dictator essentially holding ten American citizens hostage, ostenisbly for intending to take 33 orphans to a better place.
This little prick needs to be given an ultimatum: release them or you’re on your own.
