Romney has no chance of being the Republican nominee in 2012. If he couldn’t beat a very weak field of candidates in 2008 (McCain, Rudy, Thompson, etc.) he won’t be able to beat a much stronger crop in 2012.
Romney would make a good Treasury Secretary though.

Peter Flaherty, senior aide to Mitt Romney and Scott Brown’s campaign, was asked by National Journal, “Of what political campaign (past, present or future) would you most like to be a part?” He responded: “That’s easy. Scott Brown’s reelection to the U.S. Senate.”
He also had some praise for Obama’s David Axelrod. “I have great respect for his work and his steady, mild mannered approach. Nothing seems to bother him, and his results speak for themselves. Also, anyone who has read an article about his and his wife’s tireless commitment and devotion to their children knows his heart is just as big as his brain.”
