Climate Chief Was Told of False Glacier Claims Before Copenhagen [Why Isn't He Sacked?]

January 30 Climate Chief Was Told of False Glacier Claims Before Copenhagen

Most experts believe that the Himalayan glaciers will take centuries to melt

Ben Webster.

The chairman of the leading climate change watchdog was informed that claims about melting Himalayan glaciers were false before the Copenhagen summit, The Times has learnt. Rajendra Pachauri was told that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessment that the glaciers would disappear by 2035 was wrong, but he waited two months to correct it. He failed to act despite learning that the claim had been refuted by several leading glaciologists.

The IPCC’s report underpinned the proposals at Copenhagen for drastic cuts in global emissions. Dr Pachauri, who played a leading role at the summit, corrected the error last week after coming under media pressure. He told The Times on January 22 that he had only known about the error for a few days. He said: “I became aware of this when it was reported in the media about ten days ago. Before that, it was really not made known. Nobody brought it to my attention. There were statements, but we never looked at this 2035 number.”

Asked whether he had deliberately kept silent about the error to avoid embarrassment at Copenhagen, he said: “That’s ridiculous. It never came to my attention before the Copenhagen summit. It wasn’t in the public sphere.” However, a prominent science journalist said that he had asked Dr Pachauri about the 2035 error last November. Pallava Bagla, who writes for Science journal, said he had asked Dr Pachauri about the error. He said that Dr Pachauri had replied: “I don’t have anything to add on glaciers.”

The Himalayan glaciers are so thick and at such high altitude that most glaciologists believe they would take several hundred years to melt...

Dr Pacharui has also been accused of using the error to win grants worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

So busted.

"I'm shocked, shocked that Global Cooling has been going on here!"

"Your winnings, sir."

"Oh, thank you."

I wonder if its starting to occur to Pachauri, Mann, Jones... that infamy is bearing down on them, and there’s little they can do to avoid it at this point.

“Disgraced climate ‘scientists’ for $500, Alex”.

Am I the only one who noticed that the chamber AND Obama laughed at the state of the union lecture when he said:
"I know there have been questions about whether we can afford such changes in a tough economy. I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change."

None of this seems to matter to the Dems or the press. They still claim climate change (the new code for global warming) to be a crisis. They have stated they still want to pass restrictions on CO2. Hussein is writing executive orders in that vein, which will still damage our economy and quality of our lives. Lindsay Graham is still out there promoting a warming earth. I don’t know what idiot McCain’s public stand is on this week, but you can bet he will be in favor of AGW again. His word is worthless.

So, I imagine that even if refutation of AGW was carved into stone tablets brought down from the mountain on national TV, these bastards would still ram it down our throats.

Meanwhile, what is stopping these “executive orders” Hussein is using to write environmental law (unconstitutionally)?

Does anyone seriously think the idiot Republicans will even attempt to undo this totalitarian crap, should they regain power? Did Bush undo Clinton orders closing off Utah coal?

Leftist don’t get sacked or fired for poor performance, they get promoted. It is only “good intentions that count. Look at Jamie Gorilick, she caused disasters everywhere she went and never was held accountable. Barney Fa@@ I mean Frank is another example. Had a male wh00r house in his basement and perpetuated the Fanny Mae fraud causing the mortgage crisis that still plagues us and he is heading the House Banking committee! Insanity!

You are absolutely right. The list of such examples grows daily.
