US arms sales to Taiwan raise tensions with China
The Telegraph ^ | January 30, 2010 | David Eimer

China has cancelled all military exchanges with the US in a sign of its anger at the proposed sale of advanced missiles and helicopters to Taiwan.

Beijing has also imposed sanctions on the companies selling the arms.

“We made the decision out of considerations on the severe harm of the US arms sales to Taiwan,” said Defence Ministry spokesman Huang Xueping in a statement.

“The US plan will definitely seriously disturb the relations between the two countries.”

Yeah, whatever.

Ever hear of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979?

The United States is legally allowed and obliged to assist the ROC, Republic of China (Taiwan) in any way.

This arms package is one of them.

Just normalize relations with Taiwan and be done with it. One China hissy fit and then it’s over. Worst case, they don’t sell tools to Home Depot that break after a year anyway.

“China has cancelled all military exchanges with the US”

Good! There shouldn’t be any! What was there? China is a totalitarian regime and should be treated as such.

BTW, the one-child policy is applied disproportionately to disfavored minorities, in case anyone hadn’t realized that.

Most excellent.

Can we start turning away the container ships with all those imports now?

AMERICA FIRST.

I thought it was only the Han ethnic majority.

China can relax.

Barry will betray Taiwan just in time to thwart any meaningful challenge to the PRC's tyranny.

I guarantee it.

The only circumstance under which China would be challenged by Obastard would be one in which China became "too capitalist". In that instance, Barry would arm its enemies and seek its destruction.

As it is, his cabinet and collection of super-villian Czar action figures all praise China and want to emulate it.

Barry will do nothing to call attention here, and will fence sit.

Barry can not afford for this to come to ahead because Taiwan is a nuclear power, and having that little factor come out with him not having broadcast it to the world (even though most military analysts are pretty sure of it) will further enrage his HuffPo/DU base.

You can expect deafening silence from Barry.

The one-child policy is applied much more heavily to people suspected of not being loyal to the regime, and Christians.

OK fine, I’m just saying when I hear that phrase I think of those WW2 pro-german democrats.

OK fine. When I see liberals I think of the movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. Doesn’t seem to have prevented them from winning the last major election.

:)

Enough with the waffling. Let’s just be unabashedly patriotic and assertive for a change. Voters will respond to that.

And it’s for our country. It’s real. That’s the important thing.

Love America. It’s the best country in history. Ok I’m biased...

With the Clintonistas’ contacts in China it wouldn’t surprise me if Hillary advises them them to press hard...real hard. Promising if they did they would deal with a more China friendly Clinton Administration in 3 years.
