DALLAS—An obscure candidate with backing from the "tea party" movement threatens to deny a decisive victory to either Texas Gov. Rick Perry or Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in the battle for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Texas.
Little-known Debra Medina made a splash two weeks ago in a televised debate. She criticized the governor for "painting a rosy picture that doesn't exist" about the Texas economy and said her rivals' "squabbling isn't getting us anywhere."
Mrs. Medina "stole the show," said Harvey Kronberg, longtime editor of the Quorum Report newsletter in Austin.
On Friday night, Mrs. Medina will try to prove that her debate showing was no fluke.
A nurse and former Republican Party leader in Wharton County, in south Texas, Mrs. Medina is running on a platform of small government, states' rights, and the elimination of property taxes and gun-registration laws.

I watched most of the first gubernatorial debate. (plan on watching the second.) KBH and Perry were sniping so much at each other, it was a real turn-off.
My fear is that Medina will pull enough votes from Perry that we will end up with KBH. I guess she's better than a Dem...but not by much.
It’s a real shame we haven’t found a person that wants to do the right thing; only mouth the words.
The politicians today make me sick.

Paulbot? Listening to her in the first debate sure didn’t give me that thought.
Medina still has to show me more in next debate and in other campaigning, but she’s gotten my and lots of others attention. If she can’t I will have to stick with Gov. Goodhair and hope he drops the tollroads and TTC bad ideas.
With facing hard times via nobama, we sure don’t need KBH’s “be nice” DC approach.
Listenng to Medina, she has a definite Libiterian “lean”. As does Ron Paul.
I thought TTC was dead and the toll roads were left to city jurisdiction. Correct me if that is not the case.

Maybe only Kay Bailey’s radio ad is harping on TTC, but toll roads by TXDOT not the city, is going in around Tyler.

I’m not far from you, but I work in Dallas. A lot of the tollroad action there is a push by the city. I think they get a cut of the tolls.
But I’ll look further.
Started to cheer till I read the Paulbot bit. too bad.
Kronberg is a big lib. What I think he wants is for Perry and Hutchison to waste more money in a run-off so there’s less to attack the Dem with in November. He wants Medina to take enough votes where neither takes 50% the first time through.
She got my attention in the beginning too. I just don’t think she has any experience or business running for Governor. Sorry.
I know what you mean. I just don’t trust the politicians. They will say anything to get elected and that is both sides. They use PR to hide everything.
Medina may be a nice person. I will tell you what I don’t like about her. She comes out of the blue. No one has ever heard of her. She has no record to prove who she is or what she is capable of doing. She can talk a pretty game; but the biggest cons with their baby blues can do that.
Yes, I am cautious; but going for a top spot like Governor with no experience is a bit too ambitious to me.
Why should I vote for a person with no known qualifications just because they say they can do this or that? It just doesn’t compute.
However, if people like her go ahead and vote for her; but I am not.
It could be as disasterous as Arnold in CA. CA had a golden opportunity to put things right when they got rid of Davis. Did they do it? No, they voted in Arnold which was a big, big mistake as we all know. Didn’t anyone read he was married to a Kennedy and they stick together and they have name recognition?
