As per my interests, I read a lot of post apocalyptic, SHTF, TEOTWAWKI fiction. A lot of them rehash concepts, plots and storylines. However, I read one the other day with a new hook: During the massive worldwide economic downturn, with a collapse of the American economy (so far, so good), comes a mass self-repatriation of Mexicans back to their homeland from America, as there is no work.

However, this threatens to further destabilize the government of Mexico, so they mobilize their army at the border to prevent their return, in effect forcing the U.S. to continue caring for them.
