CA: Fiorina draws ire of right with praise for Rev. Jesse Jackson, push for more women in politics

WASHINGTON — Former Hewlett-Packard CEO and Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina found herself in political hot water Friday after speaking warmly of Jesse Jackson and saying democracy won't be "truly representative" until "at least" half of elected officials are women.

In a speech that became public Friday, Fiorina fondly recalled the Rev. Jesse Jackson — a controversial figure across the political spectrum but anathema to many on the right — "very graciously" visiting her at HP years ago, ..

...

At a time Fiorina is seeking to appeal to conservatives, the most reliable voters in Republican primaries, her remarks could prove costly. Critics on the right, including one of her opponents in the GOP Senate primary, argued that her speech smacked of identity politics and bristled at her ties to Jackson.

"To equate representative democracy with group power is a very dangerous and wrongheaded way of thinking," said conservative Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine, who is running against Fiorina. "It's the kind of gender and racial identity politics we fight with the left over, and it's the kind of thinking that leads to quotas."

In a blog post on the conservative American Spectator Web site, Philip Klein wrote: "The fact that Fiorina, as CEO, felt the need to play the game with Jackson is troubling enough. But it's still worse that she would boast about it years later."

As HP CEO in the early 2000s, Fiorina worked closely with Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition on several diversity initiatives — ..

"In the past 40 years, there are very few people who have used their talent ... to achieve more things for more people in more places than Reverend Jackson," she said in a 2003 speech posted on HP's Web site. "And we are all better off for his leadership."

I’m not voting for her in the primary. Chuck DeVore gets my vote.

I’m hoping there are a lot of “us” out there. By us I mean, like me, anyone running Republican that even hints of “reaching across the aisle” , is toast, and a RINO.

Give her a break . She can’t mean it . She is not what you are thinking , she is only a liar . Unfit for public office of course , but deserving of your pity .

“A spokeswoman for Fiorina, Julie Soderlund, said she had nothing to apologize for.”

She better think of SOMETHING real quick, if she doesn’t want to wind up as a footnote...but it’s probably too late anyway.

"...work-force diversity was a celebrated cause in Silicon Valley at the time Fiorina trumpeted it at HP."

During some idiotic sensitivity training class or other I attended in the 90s, a young black women defined "diversity" as "...gettin' rid of all those 50 year old white men."

I can only speak for myself. I did know that Carly was notorious during her brief, disasterous HP stint for spending most of her time engaging in self-promotion, but that aside, every vibe I’m getting from her is that of an unserious RINO of no real principle just itching to get into office so she can flip us the bird.

Me too. So far he is the only decent guy in this race. I can’t stand Fiorina, can’t stand Whitman, so DeVore will get my vote too. I hope he wins

Strange post - why on earth don't you think she "means" it? She is pursuing a classic Progressive destruction career. In the name of centrism, triangulation, healing, etc., she has consciously and deliberately wasted the jewel of HP, and many of it's people, solely on behalf of pleasing her political controllers. The woman is a menace, and pursues evil very deliberately to great effect. And now she wants to enjoy her depravity in the political arena, and harm millions. Pity her!? Wake up!

She is an idiot, sorry to say.
Someone who is basically BOASTING of her and her corporation’s willingness to be rolled by the shakedown artist Jackson/ pathetic.
But I am going on record as saying that ‘behind the scenes’,
she’ll be getting the support of the RNC, and DeVore will be
left out in the cold.
Assuming the RNC has any money left, it will go to her.
If that happens, everything I have been sayig about them for months will be confirmed: THEY are going to be the biggest obstacle WE face going forward, far bigger than the Democrats. Carly Fiorina is just the kind of candidate who is made to order for the perpetually pandering RINO GOP.

I am not surprised. When she became the CEO of HP, she basked in the glory of being a woman who had become a CEO. It was all about being a woman for her and not about business. It was clear at that time that she was a liberal. Not surprisingly, it was a disaster with her leading HP. She led HP into one of the worst deals in history and lost her job after the deal became a drag on HP.

She lost her job , and became a drag on HP, so naturally , following the Peter Principle, her “expertise” guides her into a job in Politics, after ‘rising to her level of incompetence’. Not the first person who has followed that career path.

Make sure that you include Mike Huckabee in your lecturing. I hope that you never tried to crucify him for not "goose" stepping to your ideas.

Agreed. She turned a fine company into just another dime a dozen company. Carly was only hired because she was a woman and the board kept her way to long because she was a woman. She is a disaster.

They should have learned with Scozzafava in NY23. If they did not then boxers will be re-elected.
