This is the kind of medical future we would have had under Obamacare. Americans are beginning to understand that "free" health care involves trade-offs that may not be acceptable from the viewpoint of one's life and safety. The amount of money spent is entirely tangential to the picture.

diverticulosis

A young relative suffers from this, doesn't help that he has no health insurance.

Lesnar said physicians gave a couple of potential diagnoses, including mononucleosis and the H1N1 virus. Lesnar acknowledged that he refused to get a CT scan, which might have allowed doctors to diagnose him properly at the time.

A CT scan to diagnose diverticulitis? Since when?

While a contributory factor, I doubt that diet alone was responsible for his problem. Given that he is an athlete, I would screen any performance enhancement substances he is using. There are a ton of them, and many are legal. But this does not mean free of side effects.

If you know who Brock Lesnar is, the liklihood he has chemicals from GNC (and other places) in his medicine cabinet are quite high.

I watched him destroy Mir in their rematch last year. Lesnar is a big and powerful guy who knows how to wrestle. He got on top of Mir and pounded his face into chop meat with short jackhammer punches.

Its true. A CT scan is the best way to confirm diverticulitis. A CT scan will clearly show the inflamed diverticuli, the surrounding inflammation and any abscess. I should know, I had multiple attacks (and multiple CT scans) last year and finally had my sigmoid colon removed a week ago.

CT is the test of choice for when Diverticulitis is suspected.

Ooh, that diverticulosis is nasty. My dad had bouts with it and so did a co-worker.
Even a strawberry seed can set it off.

I was diagnosed (IN CANADA) with diverticulitis within 2 weeks of my first symptoms with the help of a barium enema.

You do NOT want that to happen as late as I waited. Get it overwith if you even THINK there’s a problem. Really. Your dignity will thank you!.

BTW, Brock, you’re as full of S#!+ as you are full of yourself! If you were in any provincial full-service facility, or either Capitol (Winnipeg or Regina) you would have received the same or better care than you got in outer butthole NoDak.

We have enough to deal with up here without the assault of the lies the press and certain idealogues constantly foment agaionst the Canadian health care system, and those of us who actually work within it.

I find it rather annoying that when there is something good to come through the press about our admittedly problematic health care system, FReepers constantly harp on about how the press is wholly unreliable, but ONE WORD about a possible shortcoming in the healthcare available in Canada, and many FReepers become the “Hallelujah Chorus”, praising the accuracy and unbiased reporting coming from the presstitutes.

Use your noodles, people!

If OUR system was half as BAD as claimed, do you not think there would be serious repercussions among the electorate up here? You hear about “waiting lists”, but never hear the context. Of COURSE there will be a longer wait for someone coming in for an OPTIONAL/cosmetic procedure over an emergent patient!

If YOUR system was half as GOOD as claimed, do you not think it would be already in use throughout the civilized world?

The opposite also applies here.

You guys need tort reform and a tighter leash on drug advertising, while we need more competition and FAR less regulation.

JMHO, YMMV.

Yeah, really. Reporters are dumb. I am pretty sure that a Colonoscopy is the Gold Standard for diagnosis, if I'm not mistaken.

My case was diagnosed with x-rays. I had to drink a LOT of white fluid that was necessary to give the proper background to the x-rays.

I'm pretty sure if they'd done a colonoscopy on me, it would have killed me.

My surgeon said upon opening me, I looked like a train wreck, and my doctor assured me later that if I'd waited another week, I'd have been mort.

A CT scan will do the trick, of course, and will give very precise data on the course to take in treating the problem, but CT scans are expensive.

In my case, divericulitis or gastroenteritis was suspected immediately, but they needed the pictures to confirm and decide on a course of action.

Because I was in intense pain at the time, taking the x-rays was kind of tough (I had to stand up for them to take the pictures).

I'm glad to see it worked out for Lesner. The surgery is indeed a game-changer.

(As an aside, did you know that the only man to defeat Lesner in college - I don't know, maybe ever??? - is New England Patriots offensive guard Stephen Neal?)

What’s interesting is though, that Obamacare is nothing like Canadian health care.

Obamacare is truly the worst of both worlds, and he somehow has managed to annoy both the right and the left with it.

Nope. When diverticulitis is suspected, CT is the gold standard. Colonoscopy is invasive, and could cause a disaster.

Lesnar wouldn’t reveal the name of the Canadian medical center where he received his initial care,

WHY? Maybe it wasn't anywhere in Canada.

Any diagonise is now backed by a cat scan, or mri. And if it doesnt show anything - tough! It is all in your head. Welcome to Evidence-based medicine.

We are beginning to practice very stupid medicine.
