Obama blasts court decision By Eric Zimmermann - 01/21/10 01:22 PM ET
President Obama came out swinging today against the Supreme Court's ruling in a major campaign finance case.
In a statement issued by the White House, Obama said the decision "has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics."
He added that his administration will work with Congress to soften the impact of the decision. Here's his full statement:
With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans. This ruling gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington--while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates. That's why I am instructing my Administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision. The public interest requires nothing less.
Democrats are already working on legislation to address the decision, which struck down limits on independent expenditures by corporations and labor groups.

Hey Obama - “We won.”
Barky no likey when the private sector gets to spend their money to defeat him.
Becasue he is such a learned Constitutional jurist.
“new stampede of special interest money in our politics”
The audacity of his statement is unfathomable. What about the SPECIAL INTEREST THAT PUT YOU IN OFFICE??
Looks like he forgot to include unions.
This from the kenyan who broke every finance rule during his own campaign.
He turned off the credit card check. He took millions from overseas and generally bought the election with fraudulent funding and fraudulent votes.
He promised he would take public financing and then at the last minute he changed his mind.
What a freakin hypocrite. But who's surprised.
CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS. IMPEACH THE KENYAN!
TFB FUBO
LOL! I always thought, of all of the strange claims the left made about Bambi, that was one of the most off-the-wall.
Can he appeal the Super Secret Supreme Supreme Court?
I haven’t read the decision, but if Obama and Chucky Schumer are blasting it, it must be good.
Maybe the Scottish Law allows him. /s
Chuck U will grab headlines, that’s all.
It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests
Banks - government bailed them out
Health ins. companies - stood to be the big winners of the current healthcare legislation
So of the three things he blasted as “powerful interests”, two of them have been specifically helped by Obama himself to the tune of 2-3 TRILLION dollars. And we’re supposed to believe that the only thing that makes them more powerful is campaign speech? Seriously?
Give me a break!
Wonder how that contrasts with New NJ Gov’s executive order yesterday limiting the campaign contributions of unions doing business with the state.
The SEIU just spent over ONE MILLION DOLLARS supporting Coakley over Brown in Massachusetts.
I would call that a special interest. Obama would call it a community outreach plan.
